Vixen (Dragon Eye Book 4), by Finley Aaron

About the Author Finley Aaron grew up reading books of all sorts and believes the best stories are in the ones in which things happen. And the best sorts of things to happen in books are the very things that so rarely happen in real life, for they christen the doldrums of our days with that spark of life that reminds us things can happen to us, too, if we are trained and ready when the adventures come to meet us. Finley likes to laugh, and doesn’t mind at all if readers laugh while reading these books, for in fact they were written with an impish, barely-suppressed humor that peeks out and winks at odd moments. If you’re paying attention you’ll spot them before they duck away.

Readers were introduced to Ion in the first book of the Dragon Eye Series and from the reviews, some people found him creepy. I didn’t. Ion has intrigued me from the first time he appeared in Dragon. I always felt like there was more to his story that we didn’t see—like he was misunderstood and his actions misinterpreted. I’m glad to see my gut feeling about him was right. Ion is hero material, there’s no doubt about that now. This book contains a lot of answers, clarifications, and information about the dragon world which I found really satisfying. In the same vein, Vixen is bursting with breadcrumbs for future books and the possibility of far more dragons—which is wonderful because I don’t want this series to end.Vixen deals with the theme of the lies we tend to believe about ourselves, something we all struggle to overcome. The last chunk of the book is a can’t-put-this-down page turner, so make sure to have uninterrupted time or you know…just don’t sleep, because the end is worth it!

GREAT BOOK SERIES By jay patel this book follows Zilpha on an adventure to show her dad a dragon named Ion ,who nearly killed him, can be trusted. The problem is that Zilpha likes Ion, but everyone thinks he's working for Endora, who wants to kill all dragons.Zilphas dad challenges Ion to destroy the yagi operation.Yagi are humans bread with cockroaches but with more cockroach DNA than humans. The yagi have set out to also kill dragons. If Ion succeeds ,he can marry Zilpha.I like this book because of the adventure and action. This is also a fast-paced book and told from Zilphas point of veiw.

"You can fight, boy. Now you must learn to lead.” AD 451. The Dark Ages. Could YOU lead a barbarian warband? Keep them out of trouble? Deal with your murderous rivals? Carve a path to victory, sword-in-hand, wading through the mayhem while the sky fills with Hunnish arrows? That’s the challenge facing young Prince Hengest. Saxon slave raiders have taken his sister, so now he must lead his pagan warriors into the middle of Attila the Hun's apocalyptic invasion of the Roman Empire! All will be well as long as the shieldwall holds. An action-packed tale in the tradition of Conan and Young Gladiator, Shieldwall: Barbarians! is most certainly not for the faint hearted. No basic training. No qualms. No dragons. No wizards. Just armies clashing and shields splitting as men of grim purpose decide the fate of the Empire. M Harold Page's idea of fun is hitting his friends with swords, which explains the scar on his right hand. He writes in a study crammed with weapons, history books and grimoires. He has also been known to attend the occasional Viking Metal concert.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Great historical fiction By Kansu Dincer Excellent work with the battle scenes, not unlike that of Bernard Cornwell. At first, I was not excited about the YA label but being more than a little tired with all the incest and the gratuitous rape in some of the more popular epic fantasy (I'm shaking my head at you GRRM) I warmed up very quickly to the idea of less perviness and more sword fighting. And knife. And axe. And spear. Very good.Excellent pace and great storyline. Does have that self-published look and feel. Could use a good editor and needs a thorough proof reading.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. this one is pretty violent. Which is cool with me By B. Dewhirst For a young adult novel, this one is pretty violent. Which is cool with me, but you'd probably like to know that if you're considering buying it for a kid.Basically, PG13, no sex or cursing, some berzerk murder.Seems like this is a great series, which explores a lesser known period of history (early migration/ "Viking" / dark ages). The story's protagonist is very likeable.

Unhappy wife and young mother Penelope Wolfe fears scandal for her family and worse. A Tory newspaper editor has been stabbed while writing a reply to the latest round of letters penned by the firebrand Collatinus. Twenty years before, her father, the radical Eustace Sandford, also wrote as Collatinus before he fled London just ahead of accusations of treason and murder --a mysterious beauty closely connected to Sandford and known only as N.D. had been brutally slain. Now the seditious new Collatinus letters that attack the Prince Regent in the press seek to avenge N.D.'s death and unmask her murderer. What did the dead editor know that provoked his death? Her artist husband Jeremy being no reliable ally, Penelope turns anew to lawyer Edward Buckler and Bow Street Runner John Chase. As she battles public notoriety, Buckler and Chase put their careers at risk to stand behind her and find N.D.'s killer. They pursue various lines of inquiry including a missing memoir, Royal scandal, and the dead editor's secretive, reclusive wife. As they navigate the dark underbelly of 1813 London among a cast driven by dirty politics and dark passions, as well as by decency and a desire for justice, past secrets and present criminals are exposed, upending Penelope's life and the lives of others.

Die I Will Not: A Regency Mystery (Regency Mysteries Book 3), by S K Rizzolo

Review "This is a Regency far from the mannered drawing rooms and pastoral rides of Austen pastiches--vivid with detail, teeming with raucous life, peopled with wistful and memorable characters. Delving into the sensational aspects of Society and politics, Rizzolo delivers her most compelling mystery yet." --Stephanie Barron, author of the Jane Austen mysteries"Perfect for fans of C.S. Harris, this well-researched mystery takes us to the heart of the Regency underworld..." --Lauren Willig, New York Times best-selling author of the Pink Carnation series"Rizzolo vividly depicts Regency London through her trio of contrasting but equally likable protagonists." --Publishers Weekly"History and 1813 London come alive in this powerful saga, highly recommended for fans of historical mysteries who are looking for a combination of powerful history background and involving plot." --Midwest Book Review

About the Author S.K. Rizzolo earned an MA in literature before becoming a high school English teacher and writer. Her Regency mystery series features a trio of crime-solving friends: a Bow Street Runner, an unconventional lady, and a melancholic barrister. Rizzolo lives in Los Angeles.

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Intelligent mystery with interesting historical basis, great characters and teamwork By Erin Al-Mehairi I love all types of mysteries. However, I've always thought that mysteries set in historical England were, of course, even more "hook" worthy due to their atmospheric qualities. One series that I recommend is by S.K. Rizzolo. Her Regency mysteries are intelligent, historical, detailed, and full of drama and intrigue.Recently, the third book, Die I Will Not, published and I was super excited to read it as a newspaper editor's murder is involved. Being a journalist, I adore settings, plots, and scenes surrounding that industry, especially historically, and if politics and scandal are involved too, then I am sold.I have to admit, I read the author's note first even though it is at the end. That was so interesting! Knowing that the author's mystery was based on an authentic "what if" made me even more curious! When she stated that a true historical Tory newspaper editor was assassinated in response to an article he wrote in reaction to the Reform Act during the mid-1800s, my interest couldn't have been perked more.Rizzolo's mysteries aren't cozy mysteries, they are smart mysteries. Her word choice and sentences, dialogue and plot, is one that you must read at full attention and will a focused mind. If you do, you'll be captivated by the novel and dive into the mystery at full speed. You might not even realize you've reached the end of the book so fast, as I know I didn't. Her period and historical particulars were interesting and visual. I was able to create scenes in my head as if I was propelled back in time to the cobbled, dark streets. When I wasn't entrenched in those specifics, I was reading excellent dialogue from well-developed and dimensional characters that pushed me forward. The imagery was delicious and the intrigue riveting, making a combined effort that truly captured my mind. There are quite a lot of characters and plot secrets and clues, so you must be sharp and nimble in your reading. If you are dedicated to it, then you'll feel as if you've accomplished a puzzle and made friends with some unique characters by the end. She employed not just the use of one "sleuth" but several. Penelope Wolfe, who shines as the lead in this third book, turns again to Bow Street Runner (Constable) John Chase, as well as to lawyers Edward Buckler and Ezekial Thorogood. Together, they are on the hunt for justice, even if it means being involved in the dark world of royal intrigue and scandal. As her novels always do, the book takes on some underlying issues that surround the common people and the Royals. Not to mention her authentic portrayal of the lavish Prince Regent (to become George IV), and his wife Caroline, was fairly spot-on. His spending was not viewed as wise by the taxpayers at the time, and he was irresponsible, which started to diminish the view of the monarchy among the people. We can certainly understand the dissent and societal issues clearly within the pages of this mystery. She utilizes old newspaper reports that even recorded the affairs of George IV and Caroline, who never got along, as their divorce attempts in the House of Lords were recorded. They lived separately, and so with that, derives scandal of course! I really liked how she integrated this into the mystery.I think that Die I Will Not was the best yet by Rizzolo, as I really loved the plot, historical details, characters, scandal, political intrigue, and teamwork within the novel. If you are a mystery reader that likes history, then I highly recommend this novel for a long winter weekend of intense getaway into the pages of a book.I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. My opinions are my own.

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Excellent mystery! By S. Mahaffey Penelope Wolfe is worried about the writings of Collatinus. His letters attack the Prince Regent. Penelope fears that they will think Collatinus is related to her. Her father was the first Collatinus who fled as he was accused of treason and murder of a woman. Her husband doesn't help her so she turns to the lawyer Edward Buckler and Bow Street Runner John Chase. While they stand behind her in her fight. One finds dirty politics plus more. Will this mystery ever be solved? Will Penelope win her fight with the public. The novel falls into you imagination due to the excellent writing of the author. I became involved with the story even though I discover that it is the third in a series. However, I did not feel that I missed anything from not reading the previous two. It is a novel to read and enjoy!Disclaimer: I received a arc of this book free from the publisher. I was not obliged to write a favourable review, or even any review at all. The opinions expressed are strictly my own.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. WELL WRITTEN REGENCY MYSTERY By Julie H. Ferguson A fascinating mystery from Rizzolo that kept me turning the pages. It is filled with intrigue, politics coming back to haunt, and a murder in Regency London. The author creates strong characters and many twists and turns in the story that will cause readers some insomnia. She has done her research and is good at her craft.Recommended, especially for those that like historical mysteries.

Lady Claire Aylesbury is beautiful, strong-willed and blind. When her twin brother, Edward, mysteriously disappears in the revolution-torn American Colonies, she is forced to venture out to find him, desperate to escape a limited future and the threat of a loveless marriage. Captain Rutger Grayson has turned his back on the world, unable to accept the scars that fate has inflicted. The once dashing buccaneer struggles to shield his heart as Claire draws him into a world of intrigue and danger. He seeks only to protect her against cruel betrayal without surrendering his soul. Set in 1780, a twist on Beauty and the Beast like no other, this is a love story for the ages that proves that when love is blind, anything is possible. This one is near and dear to my heart. It was my first novel so this is a bit of a re-release however...back in the old days, B.A. (Before Amazon), this was a self-published P.O.D. gem lost in the void so I'm happy to see it brought back to life with new scenes and a fresh push to the light.

An Entertaining Tale By Regina Pounds A sea captain, horribly scarred, and a beautiful damsel in distress, who is blind to his flaws, are destined to fall in love with one another. Together, they uncover the dastardly plot behind her brother's disappearance. Cast a wicked, depraved villain and his greedy, lusty female accomplice into the fray, and you have 'Blind Aphrodite' -- an entertaining tale. Some violence and graphic descriptions of the beautiful as of the ugly side of the act called 'love-making' make for adult reading. Certain plot twists give this historical romance a gothic touch. Ms Bernard shows, rather than tells. A fine debut for a talented writer.

Rerelease of Blind Aphrodite By Barbara Rickett I am fortunate to have read the original book and also the rerelease. This is a wonderful adaptation of beauty and the beast style. This is a historical romance .A blind heroine must find her brother who has gone across the ocean and she had not heard from him.She must find him and enlists the help of a ship's Captain. She gets to know him as a person on their voyage without being able to see his disfigurement. This is a true love story which is well worth reading. Renee takes us on an adventure as they discover each other.A great book by a fantastic author.

By Jeannine Meador This story was so special with a heroine who was like no other...she was real...not defined by her disability and allowed it not to control anything in her life. The story was fast paced and a book for staying up all night with! I loved it but was sad to come to the final page. We need more of this caliber of writing! This author goes to the top of my must read list and her books will remain in my library for re-reading!!

However, instead of warning young ladies to be obedient, she is warning villains to beware of revenge. These stories are scary and pointed, leading us to cheer for the former victims who are exacting retribution. My only issue was that the stories are too short to be truly satisfying.

It's a super fast read but I love to read retellings of fairy tales. I especially loved that even with different titles, you could definitely tell what fairy tale each story came from.

And this does not give any sense of completion, just one dangling cliffhanger. Still, I enjoyed this dark romp, which is a considerable statement since it is written in first person, a style I am generally not a fan of. After reading the first chapter in the LOOK NOW feature, however, I was hooked.Yes, dark indeed, considering our literally anti-heroine is an assassin for the Queen of Winter, no mischievous yet beneficing Mab of English Lore here, an admixture of urban grit and gothic faery that brings the unseelie fey into a modern world - erotic, bloody, and profane, but without going into detailed extremes nor shocking explicitness. Enough to tantalize the inner dreamer, like sipping a heady, spicy port wine.I am not one to give book synopsis, merely a flavor of what to expect, thus I will opinionate that I wouldn't say there are plot twists per se, perhaps such are lurking behind the curtain of Book 2, yet not entirely predictable. A.R. Kahler, whom I haven't read before (although I see he has many books already to his credit), admirably pulls off the first person perspective of Claire, a mortal who seems to have her inner battle of emotional helplessness and deadly professionalism mirrored by physical helplessness and sheer hard-core empowerment. We get more of the former than the latter, yet there are satisfying points of "Oh, you go, girl, kick some!"... then to be followed by helplessness again. It is a see-saw that propelled me to the end, and I will be looking forward to the second book.As a note, if you are new to Kahler's works as I am, this may be of interest as we wait for PALE QUEEN SERIES BOOK 2: I noticed there is already a trilogy by Kahler named CIRQUE DES IMMORTELS, which apparently predates the events here, as well as all three being out already. Additionally, looking through his other numerous publications, it does seem Kahler concentrates on this particular world creation of Old World Lore meets New World Grit.Something to wile away the time, eh?

I was extremely happy to see a fantasy selection. This turned out to be an interesting take on the standard Fae world, and on the whole, I rather enjoyed it.I liked the world, but was frustrated with the slow information doled out regarding the Heroine's life. It took 10% of the book before a reader found out whether the girl was Fae or mortal. It took over a third of the book before getting any further real information on how she ended up as an Assassin for the Winter Queen. I could have endured this easier if the Heroine was more likable; but for some reason she rubbed me the wrong way throughout most of the book.Good action, interesting supernaturals, and a decent plot went a long way towards making me read it almost straight through to the end. However. arriving at the end, I sadly discovered that it was not the end in any way or form. Yes, you guessed it--cliffhanger. A resolution of some sort would have been nice in this book, even though it is part of a series.Much as I was drawn into the story and some of the characters, the Heroine (although portrayed as a strong warrior) was rather pathetic. Her lack of personal magic, her insecurity, and her naivety made her virtually my least favorite character. Add to that the unsatisfactory ending, and it brought the book down to a "just OK" read for me, sorry.

Modern urban fantasy filled with magical creatures...and a truckload of sarcasm By QueenKatieMae A drawback to modern urban fantasy novels is the author mistaking sarcasm with just plain smartass. In the first few pages of Pale Queen Rising we meet Claire, the top assassin for the Winter Queen, as she threatens and interrogates a victim. Her inner voice and snarky dialogue comes across as immature and, from an assassin point of view, completely unintimidating. Just those first few pages almost made me chuck the book into the DNF bin. But, I held on. It was a good move on my part.Despite the weak beginning and after starting on the wrong foot, the book improves exponentially. Either I grew accustomed to Claire, the main character, or the narrative improved. A mortal raised in the Winter Kingdom by Queen Mab, Claire is trying to discover who is syphoning off the "Dream" that fuels the citizens of Winter and the Summer kingdoms. A byproduct of happy mortal thoughts, Dream is equally and tentatively shared by the two, but the unknown third party is endangering their treaty. The world building is solid as the author already established it in his earlier trilogy, The Immortal Circus. The magic of the fae, the demons, the witches, and the mortals who learn from them is, well, magical. The beasts are fantastic. And I absolutely love the demon Eli. Claire, while not touchy-feely, is compelling. Between her anger, her sense of loss concerning her real mother, her compulsion for killing, and her love of good bourbon and a hot bath, I did grow to like her. While I have not read the trilogy that precedes this new series I understand it is not truly necessary. I quickly read some the synopses of those books to see if it would affect my experience. There are characters that dwell in both trilogies. And despite the cliffhanger ending of Pale Queen Rising that does stem from the Circus Trilogy, I do not feel compelled to read it. One thing I did notice is that in most of the reviews concerning the final book of The Immortal Circus the readers were angered by the ending. Some were furious. They felt too many questions were left unanswered. This must be the "rest of the story" the readers were begging for.So, despite the rocky beginning, I know I will continue this series.

An eccentric billionaire, a best-selling author, and a beautiful, self-destructive woman: three lives linked by the tragic sinking of the Titanic April 11, 1912: The gala sailing out of Southampton of White Star Line’s peerless luxury liner, the R.M.S. Titanic. Among the dazzling, doomed names on the passenger list for this, the Titanic’s maiden voyage, is Clair August Ryker, the lovely and dissolute wife of billionaire industrialist William Ryker, and her ten-year-old daughter, Eva. Also present is a young couple, obviously newlyweds, the Eddingtons, who are drawn to Clair and her child. Beneath the decks, in the cargo hold, is a crate marked Ryker Industries.   November 30, 1941: In Honolulu, the apparently accidental death of tourist Albert Klein and the brutal murder of his wife confound the promising career of a rookie cop. Norman Hall will never be able to forget the grisly sight of the dismembered body of Martha Klein. Decades later, a best-selling author, he is still haunted.   What could possibly link these events? A faded film, capturing the sunny pleasures of a ship-board party, and a terrifying recording of a voice describing a night of darkest infamy and moral outrage?   It is Norman Hall’s assignment, fifty years after the sinking of the Titanic, to cover for World Magazine William Ryker’s multimillion-dollar salvage expedition to recover the lost riches of the Titanic. Norman Hall is determined to understand the reclusive billionaire’s motives for the expedition, but as he delves deeper into the past, he finds himself in grave danger. To solve the mystery, he must somehow unlock the memory of the deeply troubled Eva Ryker.

The Memory of Eva Ryker: A Novel, by Donald Stanwood

Review “A sweetheart of a thriller . . . [Donald Stanwood] pulls an incredibly tangled story along as smooth as an ocean liner weighing anchor. . . . For people who want a good read, The Memory of Eva Ryker is one of the recent best.” —The New York Times Book Review   “Sheer entertainment, expertly done . . . A glittering thread of malice and mystery.” —Cosmopolitan   “A sure-fire combination of themes takes up where A Night to Remember and Raise the Titanic left off. . . . In a slick, fast-paced, and adroitly plotted suspense story, Stanwood brings together the strands of the Titanic disaster, including a starkly graphic re-creation of the ship’s last minutes.” —Publishers Weekly

Always fascinated with the Titanic, I took it home and started reading it. It seemed a little slow at first, but became riveting very shortly. While reading it , I could picture Harrison Ford playing the main character since "Norman" finds himself always one step ahead of the villain. It should be re-released because it is a very good book and well written.

Neglected book parallels "Titanic" By A Customer I read this book about 8 years ago and enjoyed it immensely; it was one of those riveting page turners which are so hard to find these days. It came back to me after seeing the movie Titanic, because I was reminded of various parallels between the two stories; notably the uncovering of an woman's mysterious background set aboard the great ship. It also centred on the enigma of that most mysterious of ships. It reignited my interest in the story and I was desperate to read the book. Unfortunately it appears to be out of print. It seems an ideal moment to release the book and capitalise on the renewed interest in the Titanic phenomenon. I would be very interested in finding out more about the book and it's author, Donald Stanwood. Any feedback would be much appreciated.

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Riveting Reading By Ohioan I read this novel when it was first published, and I remember staying up very late for two or three nights, just because I couldn't put the book down. The story is about a murder that took place on the Titanic before it went down. I don't want to give away anything that might spoil the plot for you, so I'll just say that the story is really told in the present day. (When the book came out, the present day was the 1970s.) There is a connection between that murder and the present day. This is as much a thriller as it is a mystery. Recommended!

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. A Great Read! By John B. Rogers This is the second book in a series. I enjoyed the first (If The Dead Could Speak), I liked this second volume even more, and I’m waiting anxiously for the next.Mick Powers, an underworld Everyman, travels through the speakeasys, back alleys and swank hotels of gangster-era St. Paul, Minnesota. In the 30’s, Saint Paul became a criminal oasis, corrupt, brutal and … interesting. Mahoney knows the history well and winds Alvin Karpis, Ma Barker, Jack Pfeifer, and others through Mick’s story. This is noir mystery, yes, but the hard-shell exterior of the classic noir tough guy covers over an interesting character always struggling between survival in a depression-era city corrupt to its core, his Catholic upbringing, and his love of family and several very different women. The story is great, Mick is fascinating, and I want more!

Mick Powers is a great character, full of contradictions, just a regular joe, caught up in the criminal element underworld, yet underneath it all is a good guy! I feel like I'm right there, witnessing this fascinating period of American history.

This is a  teen's guide to spirituality written specifically with teens in mind. It's an introduction to many basic areas and concepts on spirituality. Examples and explanations within the book are written from a teen's perspective and life stage and not that of an adult. That being said, parents and adults will benefit from the wisdom explained in the book as well. Soaring - A Teen's Guide to Spirit and Spirituality covers everything including:

  • A beautiful interpretation of God
  • Importance of love, gratitude and forgiveness
  • What and where our energy centers and spiritual bodies are
  • Who your Guardian Angel is
  • Who the Archangels are
  • How to stop negative self-talk
  • Caring and valuing yourself to want the very best for you
  • Dealing with negative people, negative energies and negative environments and transforming them towards the positive
  • What our Divine Plan and Divine Purpose are here on earth
  • How to care for our bodies by eating well, meditating, and taking advantage of natural healing means
and much more.  There are very few books written specifically for teens and this book covers all of the basics while teaching teens and young adults the importance of self-love, self-care, how to be yourself no matter what in the face of peer pressure and social media bullying. Everything that's written in this book has been guided with love and support from above and will empower young adult readers to be themselves, speak their truth and live a life of harmony and happiness. This book is a reference guide with plenty of tools, exercises and guidance that are easy to apply and will have powerful benefits. Included in the back of the book are a few meditation scripts that readers can record and try out on their own. This book has plenty of information to keep the reader returning to it for reinforcement, in order stay on track once their journey has begun.

Soaring - A Teen's Guide to Spirit and Spirituality, by Deneen Vukelic

Review "A thoughtful, well-written, much-needed book on spirituality for teens. Deneen Vukelic is blazing a new spiritual trail--just for young people."--Dr. Susan Shumsky, award-winning author of 11 spiritual books: drsusan.org

From the Author Writing this book was an amazing experience. I was inspired to write this book not only by my own children, but by other teens who I've taught and mentored in matters of the spirit. It was at that time I realized that there weren't many books that explained things about spirituality. I invited three teenagers to be my "editorial advisory board" and they guided some of the topics that ended up being in this book. They also read the book as I was writing it and offered input that helped me shape the flow and content of the book. I am tremendously gratefrul for their kind words and wonderful support.I practice what I preach and the writing of this book is because I followed my own intuitive guidance. In trusting that inner guidance, I found that the words flowed easily as I wrote each chapter and the book was written in only 6 months.  I have tremendous appreciation for my own, personal spiritual support team that guided me through every stage of this process. In writing this book, I discovered a passion for writing, so much so, that I'm in the planning stages of another book.  This second book will focus on how teens can manifest the life they want right now through the power of intention and visualization.Thank you for taking the time to read about me and Soaring!  It's my hope that it will help you on your spiritual journey towards a happy, peaceful and fulfilling adulthood.

From the Back Cover Have you always wanted to know why you are here? What your life purpose is? Have you wanted to be reassured that you are not alone and there is someone "up there" helping you? Have you wanted a better understanding of who God is? If your answer is "yes" then this is the book for you. This detailed guide will give you an in-depth understanding of spirituality and the wonderful spiritual beings who assist us in everyday life. It's written specifically for you, not your parents. You will learn about Free Will, intuitive development, who the Archangels are, and spirit guides; how to figure out your divine purpose, how to live and view your life positively, and much, much more. You are not alone and have never been alone. You are here on earth for a very special purpose, and this book can help you figure out what that purpose is by providing you with the information and spiritual tools you will need to blaze your own spiritual trail.

A Shining Light on the Path to Enlightenment By Riki Frahmann Soaring –A Teen’s Guide toSpirit and Spiritualityby Deneen VukelicWow, this 209 page wonder is indeed a miracle. By Ram Das Batchelder This is an extremely valuable guide for teens which shares the essentials of spirituality, meditation, and all we need to lead a healthy and God-focused life. It is full of profound truths that are all too often left unspoken and untaught in our modern world, and which must be shared with our young people in a big way now, if there is any hope of keeping our troubled world from human-caused catastrophe. The author has taught numerous workshops on meditation for children and teens, and this beautifully written book shares her vital insights in a style that is most appropriate for her audience. Her voice is authentic, sweet, direct — and never condescending. The teachings she shares here are based on terminology taught by the Ascended Master St. Germain (such as “the Mighty I AM Presence®”), and the goal she speak of is nothing less than perfection, which she assures us is not as unattainable as it might sound! The focal point for her teachings is simple: we should always strive to become a “kind, loving, peaceful and compassionate person,” which is surely the essential focus for everyone, no matter what their religious or spiritual identification may be. She also focuses on the value of gratitude and forgiveness, and of trusting God to be our source for everything in life. The book’s first section focuses on the basics of spirituality: developing intuition, exploring free will, understanding and working with the energy systems within our bodies, working with angels and spirit guides, and also Eastern concepts such as karma and reincarnation. The second section brings things down to earth with topics such as friends, school, romance, marriage and children, in other words, the author integrates the high spiritual understandings we learned in Part 1 with the stuff of daily life. Important! The book’s final section deals with health, diet, relationships and exploring ways to heal ourselves on all levels: physically, mentally and emotionally.I truly love the simple, straightforward and optimistic approach Deneen Vukelic takes in this book! This is an excellent manual for living, and the perfect gift for teenagers, which should help prepare them to grow spiritually as they navigate the difficult teen years towards adulthood. Highly recommended!~ Ram Das Batchelder, author of "Rising in Love"

I thoroughly enjoyed every page. Filled with clear, easy to follow explanations and life lessons, I’m confident that young people will find that this book provides explanations and answers to so many of their questions about life and spirituality. In addition to offering a wealth of life-lesson information, I found it to be entertaining and enjoyable reading. The author creates a story that follows the life of a hypothetical couple, as an example of how seemingly disconnected events and life experiences ultimately move them toward their lives’ divine purpose. Highly recommended.

I was captured by the idea of this series and always felt like I was on the edge of gettting some deeper meaning, which I believe I did in the end. The last part of this book was actually more clear about the deeper meaning, which I liked and could definitely compare to the time we are living in. The pace and the back and forth between characters in the three books made it difficult at times to get through. Having said that, the characters were interesting and likeable, or not. I just wish it had been easier to tie them together. It was good enough that I read all three books and would read more by this author, but at times wanted the pace to pick up or something. I don't mean this review harshly. I did enjoy the story and Sorenson is a good writer. Worth the read.

How is this book unique?

Formatted for E-Readers, Unabridged & Original version. You will find it much more comfortable to read on your device/app. Easy on your eyes. Includes: 15 Colored Illustrations and Biography Lady Chatterley's Lover is a novel by D. H. Lawrence, first published in 1928. The first edition was printed privately in Florence, Italy, with assistance from Pino Orioli; an unexpurgated edition could not be published openly in the United Kingdom until 1960. (A private edition was issued by Inky Stephensen's Mandrake Press in 1929.) The book soon became notorious for its story of the physical (and emotional) relationship between a working class man and an upper class woman, its explicit descriptions of sex, and its use of then-unprintable words. The story is said to have originated from events in Lawrence's own unhappy domestic life, and he took inspiration for the settings of the book from Eastwood, Nottinghamshire, where he grew up. According to some critics, the fling of Lady Ottoline Morrell with "Tiger", a young stonemason who came to carve plinths for her garden statues, also influenced the story. Lawrence at one time considered calling the novel Tenderness and made significant alterations to the text and story in the process of its composition. It has been published in three versions.

Amazon.com Review Perhaps the most famous of Lawrence's novels, the 1928 Lady Chatterley's Lover is no longer distinguished for the once-shockingly explicit treatment of its subject matter--the adulterous affair between a sexually unfulfilled upper-class married woman and the game keeper who works for the estate owned by her wheelchaired husband. Now that we're used to reading about sex, and seeing it in the movies, it's apparent that the novel is memorable for better reasons: namely, that Lawrence was a masterful and lyrical writer, whose story takes us bodily into the world of its characters.

Review * This abridgement is masterfully done and Emilia Fox reads even the most shuddering parts with dignity and authenticity. The Observer

By Mary Whipple A book which has achieved more notoriety for its sex scenes (shocking in 1930, when the book was written) than for its character studies, Lady Chatterley's Lover focuses on the affair between Constance, the "sturdy" young wife of Clifford Chatterley, and the gamekeeper of the Chatterleys' estate in the remote midlands. Constance, who married Clifford a month before he left for World War I, has become his caretaker since his return from the war, paralyzed from the waist down and impotent. A writer who surrounds himself with intellectual friends, Clifford regards Connie as his hostess and caregiver and does not understand her abject yearning for some life of her own.The distance between Constance and Clifford increases when Mrs. Bolton, a widow from the village, becomes his devoted caretaker, and he becomes increasingly dependent upon her. In a remarkable scene, Clifford finally tells Connie that he'd like an heir, and he does not care whom she finds to be the father of "his" child. He believes, in fact, that he could treat her affair as if it were a trip to the dentist. Connie, yearning for an emotional closeness which she has never experienced before, soon becomes involved with Mellors, the estate's gamekeeper. Crude and anti-social, Mellors has an honesty and lack of pretension which Connie finds refreshing.Throughout the novel, Lawrence creates finely drawn characters whose interactions and gradual changes are explored microscopically. The growth of love between Connie and Mellors is complicated by the increasing self-centeredness of Clifford, whose outrage at rumors of their affair is motivated by Connie's choice of someone so far beneath her. To Clifford, the separation of the social classes is an integral and inevitable part of life. Devoted to achieving financial success even at the expense of his workers, the paralyzed Clifford is depicted as a symbol of unfeeling aristocracy and government. Mellors, by contrast, is vigorous and full of life, a strong man of character who obeys his instincts and stands up for what he believes.Dealing with themes of love, passion, respect, honor, and the need for understanding, Lady Chatterley's Lover is a complex, character-driven novel which, though dated, celebrates the driving passions which can make life worth living. The romantic scenes and language here are tame by modern standards, and the extreme behavior and willingness to flout convention by Connie and Mellors may be less realistic, psychologically, than what would make sense to a modern reader. Firmly rooted in the 1930's, the novel shows an insensitive Clifford adhering to outdated values, based on outdated economic structures, while Connie and Mellors, freed from these conventions, explore their inner natures and their humanity. n Mary Whipple

Niles I did not read this book until ten years ago - age forty for those who count - and found it a brilliant work. It touched on every aspect of life in that era, using a difficult premise at the focus. One reviewer called it 'sexist.' In that era, women were kept removed from the world, so men were the ones who made the initial contacts with reality and their sexuality. If Lawrence had written about that society in any other way, he would have been inaccurate. Lawrence shows the social conflict with both subtlety and brutality. Yet, Mellor IS a lover. There are sexual descriptions which are explicit, but within the coccoon of emotional bondings. The way that Lawrence has essayed the class structure of England in that era is brave and accurate in all ways. He makes the posturing of the aristocracy both frivilous and full of assinine criteria at the same time he understands the willingness of those in power to offer their lives in the defense of the general welfare.Lawrence notes again with unpleasant accuracy the detriments of an unchecked Industrial Revolution on the social structure of the time. He has Constance both witness these effects and suffer the olfactory damage. This is a literary work which has an effect across the full spectrum of the possible. Finely drawn characters searching for a better way to survive their lives in a scenario that is rife with obstacles and unpleasantness. He has the touch of the finest artist working with the lightest gossamer and the blunt force of an ogre swinging a stone axe. This was published in an abridged version because it was felt that the societal message it conveyed should be allowed to transit the draconian (by the less filtered standards of today) censorship of the era which DID focus on the sexual descriptions but could NOT stop the voice of social criticism any more than the same group could stop Dickens a few decades earlier.

We read SONS AND LOVERS, and I was totally blown away by Lawrence's verdant prose and by the novel's brutal, uncomfortable beauty. My professor mentioned LADY CHATTERLEY'S LOVER frequently while we were studying Lawrence, and since then I've wanted to read this later, more well-known, more controversial work. Finally, two years after that class, I got around to it.LADY CHATTERLEY'S LOVER tells the story of a young woman named Constance Reid, who marries Sir Clifford Chatterley when he's home on leave for a month from the battlefields of World War I. After a month of honeymooning, Clifford must return to the war; and sadly, when he returns six months later, he comes home "more or less in bits," paralyzed from the waist down. The newlyweds settle at Clifford's family home, Wragby, near the industrialized town of Tevershall.Although Clifford cannot please Constance sexually, he and his wife are intellectually connected; they make love with words, and at first this is enough for Constance. However, a brief affair with one of Clifford's colleagues makes Connie aware of her more carnal needs, of her desire for physical pleasure.Enter Oliver Mellors, the Chatterleys' groundskeeper who lives a life of solitude in a secluded wooded cabin. In Mellors, Connie is awakened to a higher consciousness, to the power of sexual pleasure and mutual satisfaction. Her relationship with Mellors helps her emerge from her cocoon of prudishness to become a highly sexualized being. The affair continues under Clifford's nose, and he is either too inattentive to notice or just pretends not to.As a baronet, Clifford is in a position of power, but he finds himself completely powerless. The mines of Tevershall, which he controls, are dying; and not only is his industry dead, so is his sexuality. He, and his business, are impotent. What makes him so interesting is the almost tender way in which Lawrence portrays him. The scene in which he tries desperately to force his wheelchair's dying motor to roll uphill while Connie and Mellors look on is particularly heartbreaking. Clifford is vain, and he has no use for sex or other things of a physical nature, but he also knows that the only way he can produce an heir is if Connie has sex with another man and allows Clifford to claim the child as his own. His lack of power, and his reaction to the knowledge of it, make him compelling.Unlike Clifford, Connie's other love interest, Oliver Mellors, is confident and unashamed and almost pagan in his celebration of physicality. He's a surprisingly endearing character, a common man with some very intelligent things to say, who isn't intimidated by class boundaries, who doesn't chastise himself for ravishing a married woman.Constance Chatterley is a woman awakening to her sexual self, and Lawrence chronicles her metamorphosis in explicit, sensitive detail. It's suprising how well Lawrence was able to write from a woman's perspective. However, Connie's perception of her ideal relationship near the end of the novel probably didn't quite ring true for many female readers of the time (at least, not that they would admit): "Complete intimacy! She supposed that meant revealing everything concerning yourself to the other person, and his revealing everything concerning himself. But that was a bore. All that weary self-consciousness between a man and a woman! a disease!" It's observations like this that made LADY CHATTERLEY'S LOVER so controversial.LADY CHATTERLEY'S LOVER has probably remained so popular for 80 years because of its sexual content, which was undoubtedly completely immoral for the time period in which is was written. But of course the content is not anything too shocking in today's world of pay-per-view pornography and busty women on the covers of erotic fiction sold in supermarkets everywhere. However, this book shouldn't be bunched into that category, by today's standards or any other age's; I would like to think LADY CHATTERLEY'S LOVER is still popular today because of Lawrence's incredibly brave writing.Lawrence expounds on many controversial ideas in this, his last major novel before his death in 1930. The novel is rife with criticism of post-WWI England and the failures of industrialization to support a growing economy. Lawrence believes sensuality should be the means of connecting with environment, not through the workings of iron and gritty coal. In LADY CHATTERLEY'S LOVER, industry is impotent; but men and women are sexually alive. My only issue with the novel is that some of the sex scenes are absolutely ridiculous, and read like Lawrence was writing them merely for the shock factor. His language is often unnecessarily crude, and the whole "John Thomas" and "Lady Jane" thing is just silly. However, this ridiculousness is balanced nicely with some beautiful, sensual descriptions: Connie's first orgasm, the use of twined flowers to symbolize purity in love, the beautiful language Mellors uses in his letter to Connie at the end of the novel: "I love the chastity now that it flows between us. It is like fresh water and rain...like a river of cool water in my soul."It's undeniable that Lawrence's prose is absolutely intoxicating and exciting, and he proves it again and again in the pages of this novel, written even as his life was ending. And that's what makes LADY CHATTERLEY'S LOVER memorable: not the sex, but the words used to describe the sex. LADY CHATTERLEY'S LOVER is an intimate look at love and sex, a novel whose popularity has remained for 80 years--and probably will remain far into the future, and rightfully so.

Haven's Revenge (A Caddo Norse Novel Book 1), by Phetra H. Novak

About the Author Phetra often refers to herself as the odd man out, the dorky book nerd. She’d rather spend time with a good book or making up fantastic stories with even more fantastic characters, than live in the real world dealing with real people. The real world is strange, in a very non-humorous way, and people in it complicate it to the point of wearing you out. In the written word world, whether it’s someone else's words or her own, things might get busy, complicated, and even downright painful, but somewhere along the line, a heroes always on the horizon. He’s probably not a prim and proper, church-going pretty-boy since the author prefers rebellious men and women who don't follow the protocols of society. One of her favorite saying is that “Only dead fish follow the stream,” and well she ain't no dead fish. Phetra lives with her family—two children, a domestic partner, and their two cats in Gothenburg, Sweden. When reading her books, you’ll notice she always finds a way to bring her own culture into her books. The joy of reading and writing comes from her childhood and is something she has always loved, and been passionate to share with others. Phetra loves hearing from her readers, even with ideas of what they’d like to come next. If you are looking for her, the best place to start looking is at home in the quietest corner of the house, where she'll be curled up with either her Kindle reading or with her laptop typing away.

I liked this author's take on the shifter genere. It was different and refreshing. I loved Haven even though I wanted to smack him upside the head at times. But I understand what he went through and his feelings of hatred are understandable. Alexander is such a sweetheart and a fearsome alpha all rolled into one. I absolutely adore him. Together I loved both him and Haven. The only problem I have and the reason I gave this book a three star rating is that I felt the ending was rushed. I spent the entire book reading about the bonding and claiming and how important it was and the author just mentioned it as an afterthought in a few sentences in the epilogue. The whole story you spent waiting for this and that's all you get. Really? Also, Haven had reservations about submitting, but we didn't get to see how he came to terms with that. Didn't get to see the first time he admitted his love to Alexander. I would have liked to have seen them the first time they made love, hear their thoughts on their feelings at the time and get to see them afterwards with each other. Maybe I am greedy, but I would have loved to have seen a little bit more of Haven and Alexander together as mates. Especially knowing how Haven felt in the beginning. I felt the author did a disservice to the MCs and the story by ending it the way she did.I will read the next book in the series despite this as I love this family of shifters and can't wait to see what happens to Reid and Sean.

By Bike Book Reviews Haven is a young man that has seen more tragedy than anyone should in his lifetime already, his family was slaughtered along with some of his tribe and his high school sweetheart, and hate has made him hard and cold. He hates the 'Were' community and he will never stop, or will he?Alexander has a problem, his mate hates his kind, well he really hates everyone, but how does Alexander tell Haven that he is a Wereman? Fate may step in before he has a chance, just when he thinks it all will all be ok, everything blows up in his face. Can he make Haven believe all of his kind are not like the one that killed his loved ones? When strangers in town do something horrible Alexander might not get the chance to put things right with the man he loves, and if he does get the chance will Haven listen? If Haven opens his heart he may discover so much more than he bargained for! There is so much more to this story, but I don't want to give to much away, so I will end with this, I love this story, and this whole world Phetra has created and I can't wait to come back to it for book 2! Thanks Phetra, for a great start to a fresh new series! I received this product in exchange for my honest review.

By Patricia Nelson Every once in a while I'll come across a book written by a new-to-me author that grabs hold of me from the first page, and I just can't put it down! The author has put a new and definitely different twist on the shifter premise with Norse gods, Native American lore, and shape shifters. I do wish the ending had been a little bit less rushed, but it didn't stop me from enjoying it. I'm eagerly waiting for the next one.
