Blaming God for the death of her father, sixteen year old Elizabeth Bridges denounces her faith and vows never to utter His name again. She tries to distance herself from anything spiritual, but the events that occur after an unwanted move make that difficult. First, the dreams come – dreams of evil creatures, and rendezvous with the gorgeous stranger she thinks her mind created to escape her miserable life. But her first day at Glacier High proves there’s more to it than that. Elizabeth meets Riel, the boy from her dreams, and he knows more about her than is humanly possible. He says she possesses a coveted gift that all of Hell is clamoring to seize. The monsters she dreams of are real, and they’re battling for her soul. Soon, Elizabeth is thrust into a spiritual realm where she doesn’t know friend from foe. She battles demons in the storage closets of her high school, with Riel, her only protection. Will Elizabeth be able to trust Riel and help him save what matters most, or will they both join forces with darkness and turn their backs forever on the only One who can offer them the love and peace they so deeply desire?

Saving Elizabeth, by Amy Machelle

About the Author Amy is a teacher who uses writing to escape after long days of tying shoelaces, opening ketchup packets, and begging children to please use tissues instead of sleeves. While it had always been a hobby for her, writing swiftly turned into an obsession during the sweltering summer of 2009. A year of clacking away on her laptop later, she typed the final period of her young adult paranormal romance, Saving Elizabeth. Satisfied, she packed her laptop away, but the characters she'd invested a year of her life in insisted on being shared with the world. Tell-Tale Publishing Group is proud to be bringing this to you in December, 2011. To read more about Amy and her writing journey, visit her at her Website: www.amymachelle.com

As a whole, secular and religious works and or with strong religious undertones are clearly separated and isolated from each other. Yet authors such as C.S. Lewis and J.R. R. Tolkien have shown that it is indeed possible for works that are spiritual in nature or have Christian allegories and themes can thrive exceptionally well in both markets (Secular and Religious) along with being enjoyed by many different types of people regardless if they are atheists, Christian, or nondenominational. Whether Saving Elizabeth can thrive in a secular as well as a religious market will be discussed in the review.Elizabeth Bridges lost her faith in God after the death of her father and wants nothing to do with any spiritual or religious. Elizabeth's problems with her faith and coming to grips with the death of her father is very believable and something that many can relate to. The death of the love one is always tragic and sad but for Elizabeth, it turned her whole world upside down. She was taught to believe that God is good and loving yet she is frustrated with the fact that her father was taken away from her. Her prayers for her father to overcome cancer went unheard and Elizabeth blamed God for the death of her father. At the same time, the roles between the mother and daughter changed. Elizabeth for the longest time had to serve as a mother to her own mother who was an emotional wreck after her husband's death. Elizabeth is less than keen on moving away from her familiar places and faces but she doesn't say anything. Elizabeth's angst serves as the catalyst for the whole story. She meets a young boy named Riel-who is the gorgeous stranger from her dreams.Spoiler Alert! First of all, I loved the main villain, Lucifer. Nowadays, the Devil himself has been sissified, being turned into this Byronic character. Lauren Kate's Fallen series is one of the prime example where the Devil is watered down and utterly pathetic. If it is not that, the Devil is shown as being really over the top clichéd villain who just rambles on and on and on. But this is not the case in Saving Elizabeth. The depicting of Lucifer was spot on. He was the suave, charismatic trickster and master deceiver. Yet at the same time, he could instill fear in his minion's hearts and isn't afraid to unleash his powers, showing that he is not to be trifled with and poses as a serious legitimate threat to the main heroes in the story. Saving Elizabeth's version is fairly accurate to the entity in Christianity.Riel AKA the Archangel Gabriel actually sounds like and even behaves for the most part like an angel. A big problem is that young adult fiction has depicted angels-even fallen angels-having the maturity of a bratty teenager. But this isn't the case for Saving Elizabeth. The ending-which will not be revealed-was brilliantly executed. Earlier in this review, I would say whether or not can Saving Elizabeth thrive both in a secular and religious market. The answer would be yes. In recent years, stories with religious undertones and themes or ideas that drew inspiration from religion are becoming more mainstream and have a huge following behind them. The Ao No Exorcist (Blue Exorcist) manga which revolves around the fact that the main character who is the son of Satan along with demons and exorcist-being very popular in Japan as well as in the US and the U.K. El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron is a fantasy action video-game that is based off the Book of Enoch and other religious texts. El Shaddai is rather quirky but has a small but growing fan base behind it.Saving Elizabeth can do exceptionally well given the chance and with enough promotion. If you are looking for a great YA Christian paranormal romance, I'd recommend Saving Elizabeth.
