Fresh and inviting setting, but disappointing character development By Outtrip Gal Animal magic, the ancients vs humanity, and things are not what they seem. The stage is set for an epic fairy tale, and maybe if I hadn't jumped in on this, book #2 in the series, the back story would have filled in more of the holes. As it was, the characters felt flat, the animal magic never quite inspired and the epic battle felt a little predictable. I'd love to see more multi-dimensional characters and a few more twists and surprises in the next book, because the premise felt fresh and inviting.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. It's OK By Reader2 I somehow missed the fact that this was book 5 of the 'Princess and Hound' series. I floundered a bit in the beginning trying to figure out exactly what was going on. (There wasn't any back story explaining that humans could change into animals and vise versa.) The story had a lot of potential, but for me it fell short of what I'd hoped for. It's a rather long story and I felt like it dragged a bit in places. Before I got to the end, I had a pretty good idea how it would end. It's not a bad book, it just wasn't quite as good as I think it could have been.
