Constantinople, not Istanbul By Christina Paige I loved this story, and while I would certainly recommend the previous books in the series, if you pick this one up on its own you'll be fine: the action stands on its own, the story is self-contained and exciting - and factually based! - and the occasional reference to events that have gone before are explained well enough if they have direct bearing on the current plot.This is the fourth volume in the Talon saga, which began with him as a boy, the son of a Frankish knight in Jerusalem, who is kidnapped and raised as an assassin, but who escapes and returns to his family - after falling in love with the young sister of the leader of the Assassins. Now Talon is a member of the Order of the Knights Templar, and he is being sent on a diplomatic mission to Constantinople. Talon's mentor, Sir Guy, has important documents to deliver to the the Byzantine Emperor, Manuel I, along with an offer of royal alliance, and he wants Talon along for several reasons. First of all, it's Talon's ship they'll be using for transportation. Secondly, Talon has gotten himself in trouble again with the authorities in Acre, so it's just as well he absent himself for a while. Besides, Talon has proven himself on a number of occasions, and his knowledge of languages will be of inestimable value in a city where Latin, Greek, Persian, Turkish, and Aramaic are just some of the languages spoken.After some initial difficulties, (there is a hilarious scene in which Talon gets a lesson in how to use a new-fangled innovation called a fork,) Talon becomes friends with a young noble of Constantinople named Alexis, and this friendship opens many doors for him. While his shipmates discover the wonders of Constantinople's bathhouses, Talon and Sir Guy attend a chariot race and meet the aristocrats of the great city, with some startling consequences, for when some of the young nobles discover that Talon knows how to play chogan - polo - he is recruited for a royal match of tzykanion, a ferocious game played on horseback. Talon's performance catches the eye of the Emperor, and whether it's intended as a reward and a mark of favor, or a peculiar exactment of revenge, Talon is ordered by Manuel himself to attend him on his campaign against the Turks at the Battle of Myriokephalon. And if you don't already know how that turns out, you will by the end of Part I of Greek Fire.This is just a small part of the story, but I do not want to tell too much, or give away spoilers. But I will say this much: there is political intrigue - fictionalized, but reflecting tensions and actual events of the times - and a diabolic alliance that threatens the entire Empire, and Talon finds himself in the midst of all of it. Meanwhile, he has immediate concerns of his own, such as how to help Alexios and his family, whose fortunes are languishing, and how to fend off not one but two amorous sisters.Greek Fire is exhilarating, and there are many moments of humor and lightheartedness, but there are many serious elements also. The Byzantine Empire really was besieged by enemies on all sides; the opportunities for women in that society really were far beyond anything they could hope for anywhere in Europe; and they really did have a napalm-like weapon that they used to defend their harbors and fleets.As for the BIG QUESTION of the series, the one that has kept readers in suspense since the end of Assassins of Alamut, whether Ravan is alive and whether Talon will find her again, well, it seems the answer is forthcoming in the FIFTH book, for a teaser is provided at the end of Greek Fire in which Talon discovers the truth, and from then on, nothing will deter him from completing his quest.

Greek Fire By Walter paynter James Boschert did a wonderful work of presenting a riveting adventure story in the context of genuine historical circumstances making history come alive. His detailed descriptions of the places, countries, cities and people put his adventure story in very real surroundings. I read the whole book in two days. I could not put it down. This is also true of the previous three books of the Talon series. All worth reading.

You fall so in love with it that the characters become your friends and you wonder how they're doing when you're not reading about them. STEERING THE STARS is that book, and Hannah and Caroline are those characters.In short, Hannah goes away to fun, exciting London with a writing scholarship, leaving behind her best friend Caroline in plain, boring Oklahoma. The girls have never been apart like this before and the long distance tests their friendship. They both have to continue with life and high school without each other. First there's Hannah, navigating a foreign country--and a sister she doesn't really know--on her own. Then there's Caroline stepping outside her comfort zone by taking on the lead role in the school play.As the girls form friendships, find love, and begin to discover who they truly are, they also face the struggle of not having the other in their lives. STEERING THE STARS not only takes you on a journey about falling in love; it takes you on a journey of self-discovery and the value of friendship.Autumn Doughton and Erica Cope did a phenomenal job writing this story. Each chapter flowed beautifully with rich description and clever dialogue. I never once felt like two different people were writing the story. The writing was seamless, the characters distinctive; I could feel Hannah and Caroline's bond, and I especially loved the emails the girls wrote to each other.This is a book you do not want to miss out on. It is so refreshing to read something like this. Highly recommended.

Every book she writes just seems to get better ("This Sky" was NA perfection in my opinion). I've never read anything from Erica Cope, but I'm a fan now!This book just seemed so honest and true, everything that happened was believable. The characters were normal teenagers, not overly angsty and not the kind of characters where I'm constantly rolling my eyes. It made me laugh and tear up in equal measure.The heart of this book is the friendship between Hannah and Caroline. They were both forced out of their comfort zones, trying something different and discovering new things about themselves. I loved reading about Hannah playing squash and Caroline trying her hand at acting, and both of them cheering on the other via emails/texts.The male characters (Joel, Henry, Owen) were all good guys. Nary a damaged, alpha douchebag in the bunch. I especially loved Henry, he was just so sweet!And as a weird side note, I could totally see Hannah/Caroline as younger versions of Beth/Jennifer in Rainbow Rowell's "Attachments", which was another novel that I loved. They have that kind of awesome friendship that I love reading about.I highly recommend this for any age that loves a great YA book!

By Sara Miller I took a chance on this one because I loved the cover, I usually have pretty good luck with picking a book with a beautiful cover and finding a new favorite read and this one is no different!This is a story about growing up, finding yourself and challenging yourself to always keep progressing and trying new things. It is relatable really at any age even though it's technically a YA book involving characters still in high school. It envokes all the feels, the pain of losing a relationship and just wanting to cling to your best friend, the newness of trying something that scares you, being the new kid in a situation you have never been in before and it all comes down to believing in yourself and you will succeed.I love the characters and how funny and real they are. All the awkwardness just makes them more memorable, they aren't afraid to laugh at themselves or each other really haha like true best friends. A lot of the events are related by emails between Caroline and Hannah and at first I thought it was going to get annoying but it was actually one of the things I loved about the book.Grab a box of cookies and give this book a read! And perhaps after you finish it give your best friend a call (or email) and just let them know you appreciate them.

This is an easy, enjoyable read with a good pace and well-drawn characters.It's classed as adult fiction, but I didn't realise this when I was reading it and assumed it to be YA, because of the writing style and content. It could safely be given to older teenagers to learn a little about history in the Middle Ages in Britain.

An amazing read By Angelbear Feels like rain by Janae MitchellA spin off from the “For Always” series, you can read this alone, but I do recommend the series first.A rich family have moved into town and are trying to buy all of the farmers land, including Reeds and Rainbeaus.So far Malyn and Beau, Jets parents have managed to keep hold of their land and businesses but are fed up with the constant harassment.So Jet is shocked when the daughter of this family comes to talk to him to offer her condolences and is surprised to find that she is genuine and that he actually likes her.Jet is different from other people and doesn't like to be around them as he is an empath. He can feel what everyone else is feeling which causes him to distance himself from others.But when he starts to spend more time with Kali he starts to fall in love with her and knows that she loves him just as much.Then Jet gets framed for blowing up a factory and goes to prison and Kali has to decide whether to believe him or just to walk away and forget about their time together.I was really excited to receive this book as I have read the ‘For Always’ series and they are fabulous books. This one didn't disappoint and there were some very emotional scenes in this story that made me both laugh and cry.I loved the characters, as always, Janae will make you love them or hate them depending on who they are.I didn't want the story to end and am calling for another spin off from this book!Recommended to all who love a good coming of age story with love, lust, hurt, and happiness.

31 of 34 people found the following review helpful. Standard Margolin legal thriller gains nothing from historical setting By Aaron C. Brown Let's start off with two easy points. If you're a Philip Margolin fan, and I know there are many, this book delivers the goods. It's not up there with his best early work, like Gone, But Not Forgotten and After Dark, but it's got more freshness and energy than most of his stuff from the last five years.On the other hand, if you want a historical novel, you can give this one a miss without second thoughts. The characters and situations are thoroughly modern, without even a half-hearted attempt to embed them in 1860 Oregon. The few bits of research are paraded obviously ("there were no courthouses in Oregon in 1860","the population of San Francisco in 1860 was 56,802") and anachronisms abound. The period is an uneasy conglomeration of the somewhat earlier Illinois circuit court environment of Young Mr. Lincoln with the later brawling frontier world shown in Deadwood, or perhaps the Western justice illustrated in Have Gun Will Travel. On top of that, this is a legal thriller, not a novel. There is no character development or realistic dialog. Every expression and emotion is laboriously explained to the reader. There is no sense of place or atmosphere, descriptions are superficial and clichéd.For those of us in between, who want a satisfying legal thriller for a plane ride and aren't looking for history or literature, this is only a fair candidate. The author, as he always does, sets up an intriguing plot and elaborates it with enough twists to keep it interesting but not tangled or confused. The cast of characters is introduced early and clearly. They may be broadly drawn, but they are not inconsistent. Events move quickly enough that the book doesn't bog down, even if the characters seem to be walking through predetermined parts rather than driving the story.What's missing, however, is the detailed insider knowledge that lifts the author's best work above run-of-the-mill potboilers. That's also been missing from his other recent books, which is probably why a change of scenery seemed like a good idea. At first I thought it was working, as mentioned above this book does not have the tired feeling of a writer who has long since used up everything he has to say. But he didn't take enough time or do enough research to recharge his batteries. Intricate legal thrillers need accuracy and precision to work, and this book does not have them.So buy the book if you love Margolin, stay away if you love literature. For everyone else, the book is good enough to finish, you will not feel cheated. But this is a standard issue legal thriller, awkwardly dressed up in old clothes.

A most worthy novel By michael a. draper Phillip Margolin is one of those special authors who, when a reader picks up their book, they know they are in for an entertaining experience.I was sent this book from Amazon vine, in return for my review and I couldn't be happier that I picked this book.The time is 1860 and Oregon is really beginning to grow. Matthew Penny and his wife decide to move west from Ohio and travel by wagon train. However, Matthew losses his wife when a wagon is swept down a river crossing.With this burden behind him, he moves to Phoenix, Oregon where he's appointed to defend a man accused of theft. He doesn't win the case but does a fine job with the man's defense. Later, another man approaches him and tells him that this man has information that Matthew can use to win another case he was preparing for. All this man wants is the promise from Matthew that if the information helps, Matthew would promise to return the favor. (For just a bit, it seems like the devil in Damn Yankees).Matthew wins the new case and what the man wants is Matthew's help in getting his daughter who is being kept as a slave by a wealthy but unscrupulous man.It's difficult not to give away plot but the story moves along swiftly. The characters are vividly drawn as is the setting of the early days of Portland, Oregon. We see such things as the first steam locomotive in that part of the country.This is one of the best books I've read this year. My heart was beating faster and faster as I approached the conclusion that was both appropriate and satisfying.

Very engaging novel with four plots By Israel Drazin New York Times best-selling author Phillip Margolin is at his best in this new 2014 murder and court thriller, which contains four plots. The primary plot is based, as Margolin explains, on an actual case where a slave owner brought a family of slaves from a slave state to Oregon in the early 1800s, a state where any slave brought to the land became free. The slave owner allowed the parents and a child to leave, but kept several children as indentured servants. The parents were forced to go to court to save their children. In this novel, there is a father and daughter, Worthy and Roxanne, who face this problem just at the time when Abraham Lincoln is elected president of the United States and the country is about to become embroiled in a civil war over slavery. It is one year after Oregon became a state. The second plot focuses on a young lawyer, Matthew Perry, who falls in love with the daughter of an extremely rich man and she with him. His wife had recently died and while he is in love with the young woman, he is still in love with his first wife and is still grieving. He represents Worthy in trying to free his daughter from the former slave owner Caleb Barbour. Complicating the prior events is the murder of Barbour with Worthy being charged with the crime. Matthew Perry knows that Worthy did not commit the murder and who actually did so, but is unable to disclose this because of several obstacles he is unable to overcome. While these events transpire, an attractive former prostitute decides to fake a marriage to the very wealthy man and kill him so she can inherit his fortune. The four plots are filled with noteworthy events that occurred during the pre-civil war era out west and a host of fascinating characters. These include an Oregon supreme court justice who is pro-slavery and who falls in love with the prostitute and becomes her accomplice, a district attorney of moderate intelligence who is determined to get ahead by any means, a San Francisco mobster who will do virtually anything for money, and another young lawyer who is a better lawyer than Matthew Perry. As in many Margolin novels, Matthew Perry needs to find an unusual way to save Worthy from being hanged for a murder he did not commit by a decision of a jury that is pro-slavery and anti-blacks.

About the Author Richard Harding Davis (1864-1916) was an American writer and journalist, born in Philadelphia, and educated at Lehigh and Johns Hopkins universities. He began as a reporter in Philadelphia. In 1890 he was managing editor of Harper's Weekly. The locale of the story is exotic and thrilling, and Davis makes you feel as if you're really there. This story is brilliant, and I just loved all the twists and turns. Plots, coups, wars, and revolutions - this book has everything, including diabolical villains who will make your hair stand on end. The Baron and the King are just deliciously written. They're the kind of bad guys you love to hate.Richard Harding Davis was not only an excellent novelist but also one of the best reporters of all time. He clearly drew from the immense experience he'd gained from traveling the globe and being at the center of history and politics when he wrote his outstanding novels. As a war correspondent he had seen his share of action and adventure, so when he penned his works in the action/adventure genre, he was truly following the adage, "write what you know." His fictional works are so realistic, because he did not have to research the situations he wrote about; he lived them.This book will take you on a thrilling ride that you won't forget. His wonderfully descriptive prose makes you feel like you're actually there, and his characters are so lifelike you feel like they could stroll into the room at any moment.You will be shocked, horrified, and scandalized, not only by these tales, but by how convincingly realistic they are. I strongly recommend this book and all of Richard Harding Davis' other works. He is the master of this genre.

Thorsson The Sultan of Morocco had given orders that the ex-King of Messina, in spite of his incognito, should be treated during his stay in Tangier with the consideration due to his rank, so one-half of the Hotel Grand Bretagne had been set aside for him and his suite...he wants his power back....plots, coups, wars, revolutions...all at a time when men were men and there still was adventure!

I have read some of his other books, and I'm very impressed by the range he shows in his works. He wrote a romantic war story that made me cry when I read it, and here he has written a thrilling and terrifying adventure that had me biting my nails. This is an excellently written story that you won't be able to stop thinking about long after you've read the last page. It's as brilliant as it is chilling.One thing that really impressed me is the amazing handle that Davis had for plots hatched in the back rooms of power. This book leaves you wondering what sort of plots the powerbrokers are planning in some back room today. I find the thought both interesting and chilling, and Davis gives us a very realistic account of such things.One thing I really love about his works is that his prose is wonderful. His writing just flows across the page, and reading it is a very enjoyable experience. I can't recommend this book enough. The plot is excellent and the style is great.

I wanted to give my full-book-rush review, rather than my it's-been-a-few-days-and-the zing-is-gone review, so I clicked on the leave a review right after having finished the book. You know the drill. :)First off, I loved the setting. Growing up, I dreamed about owning a castle. And then adulthood hit me, and I realized the enormous bills that would be involved in the day-to-day running of a castle. Crazy high electric bills? Check. Astronomical heating bills? Check. Through Zoe's eyes, you encounter all of these roadblocks as her life takes an unsuspecting turn, and as a bonus, you get to roam the castle and the grounds, and experience it all through the fun and light-hearted soul that is Zoe.I loved Zoe's attitude about things. I get so tired of YA books that are heavy on the hormones, including the multiple-personality-disorder hormones, or the grimness that seems to be prevalent in so many books trending right now. It's refreshing to read something that, at times, made me laugh out loud, or blush on Zoe's behalf because she just met a cute guy, and her hair was doing the horn thing. Zac was a perfect complement to Zoe, and I loved the chemistry between them, which was apparent right from the start.Finally, I loved the twists and turns that the story took. I can't go into much detail, because it would ruin the lovely build up that the author has so artfully done, but suffice it to say, I was guessing right up until the very end.Jenna Harris, you're a brilliant story-teller, and I can't wait for your next book. Please make it sooner rather than later. :)

The voice of the main character, Zoe, is true and clear. I downloaded this book in the morning, and finished it before bedtime. I am not a teenager, but found myself immersed in this story. It was nice to see a YA book with a character having a strong, loving relationship with her father. Ms. Harris accomplished this beautifully without once getting sappy. There is tension and conflict and an original plot line about a castle in Idaho! This is a book you can give to your daughter, niece, student, or adult friend with complete confidence. Brava! I will keep my eyes open for more from this talented author.

I want a castle too, lol.The author did an amazing job of staying true to the teen voice. Her characters were teens throughout the story and it was nice not having them morph into all-knowing adults, instantly making perfect decisions.The issues Zoe had to deal with, on a personal level with the other kids, as well as on the inheritance side, were well portrayed and dealt with.This is a book I wouldn't hesitate to share with my kids. It could also spark a few good conversations on 'what would you do..."

It explains her views and feelings as she learns about the inmates, their lives, how the staff interacts with the inmates and each other. This book is wonderful with vivid scenes and memorable characters. This book is real, honest and opens your mind to what happens in prisons. It's explains inmates real feelings, thoughts and actions while in prison and before they were incarcerated.I could not stop reading this book as I wanted to learn more and hear more of the stories told in this book.I would recommend this book to everyone. It's a real life account of the authors everyday life as she works in a prison to help and teach inmates.

And trying to feel not only what she was going through, but also what the prisoners are going through, is a very hard and sad situation. And knowing that she is right, God does know what he is doing at all times, you are put through and put in situations for a reason. PLEASE, please, if you get a chance, read this book, not only for inspiration, but to also remind us all of how lucky we are, especially for the little things in life. :)

What a fantastic book this was. First, it was in verse. My favorite! And second, it was both funny and sad at the same time! I was transported to a TV sitcom from my childhood (Dawson's Creek, Saved By the Bell, One Tree Hill) and I loved every minute!There were so many things I LOVED about this book, I don't know where to start. Let's try the characters first. "You know them. and you don't know them." You know...the popular kids. All high schools have them. The ones everyone wants to be like and hope and pray that they will even look at you. Adam wants to be one of those kids. The way Adam describes them, though, you can pick out exactly who they were in your high school. For me, it was a guy named Casey and a girl named Katie. I wanted to date Casey and look like Katie. For Adam it was the same way. He wanted to fit in with the "gods and goddesses." The character's felt so real and seeing everything from Adam's POV made the story more real. You could see the struggles he had with being a good boyfriend to Victoria, or being a "god" himself.I know a lot of people might think the plot of the story is unrealistic. What would make a guy do all of those things like steal tests, sell fake ID's and deal drugs for popularity. I see it all the time!! Even in middle school my students are doing drastic things for popularity. I wish that kids didn't have to resort to illegal things for people to like them, but sadly this happens all the time.Overall, I thought the writing was spot on and the characters left me thinking about them for days. I can't wait for this book to come out so others can enjoy it as much as I did. I would recommend this for high school students because there is some scenes that younger students shouldn't know about...like threesomes...

HOW TO WIN AT HIGH SCHOOL was a tremendous book, exploring the inner turmoil often kept secret By Teen Reads It’s maddening to see people who don’t realize how lucky they are; they are so blinded by what they want to achieve that they do not stop to look around and appreciate what they already have. Adam, the main character, is one of those people. He is blinded by his need to lose his “loser” status, and his need to be popular is all he can think about.On one hand, this annoyed me to no end --- why can’t he just live his life and be happy with what he has?! But on the other hand, I empathized with him; no one likes having no friends at school. I’m a protective person by nature --- I’m often called “mom” by my friends --- and I felt a strange sort of protectiveness over Adam. I wanted him to realize how lucky he was and not let societal ideals get to his head.That odd feeling of protectiveness made me emotionally attached to Adam, which, in turn, led me to shout and yell at the book multiple times (that’s when you know a book is good). It was heartbreaking to watch Adam completely throw away everything that was important to him. Everything went on a downhill spiral so fast that you’re left in the dust. He became a different person almost overnight. His greed for popularity and acceptance ruined relationships and made his life not worth living anymore.This topic of popularity is something that hits people right in the heart, and it really did for me --- I think it is safe to assume that everyone has wanted to be considered “cool” at some point in their lives. However, some people --- like Adam --- let themselves be consumed by it. I loved this book because it hit so close to home and because of the depth of the main character; Adam has so many flaws, but they just serve to make him more human. There are some pretty explicit scenes so think twice before letting your 10-year-old brother read HOW TO WIN AT HIGH SCHOOL, but overall, this was a tremendous book, exploring the inner turmoil often kept secret.Reviewed by Pranshu A.

Dark and squicky but well-written By Shae Has Left the Room Originally reviewed at http://www.shaelit.com/2015/04/review-how-to-win-at-high-school-by-owen-matthews/HTWaHS is the character study of a loser junior who uses Al Pacino mob film Scarface to go from the high school junk pile to the top of the heap. It’s… not my usual fare, to say the least.On the one hand, tracking the start of Adam’s rise to power is pretty fascinating. Despite coming across as an underachiever, Adam pinpoints how to leverage the upper class’s weaknesses to further his goals. Whether it’s crafting essays or scoring booze, Adam works the laws of supply and demand. This kid has the principles of economics in the bag. I’ve always found fictional accounts of subtle manipulation and psychological pressure to be fascinating, so I fell into the story pretty quickly.On the other hand, loser Adam is kind of a jerk. He’s a whiny little nerdball who is obsessed with losing his virginity and being “cool.” And “winner” Adam? That guy goes lightyears beyond “jerk.” And that’s kind of the point.On the Goodreads description, the cover copy talks about this book being “laugh-out-loud funny.” Forget that. This book is not funny, nor is it particular fun. Actually, it’s surprisingly dark. It also does a great job of skirting around any direct author-to-reader moralizing. We see and feel what Adam feels. When he’s riding high, the world is all dolla dolla bills, y’all. There’s not a shred of foreshadowing or gloom on the horizon. And yet all the outs are there. Characters warn Adam about the road he’s following. He’s shown different paths he could take and still be happy. But he doesn’t. The prose does a fantastic job of keeping an Adam-centric tone. This is his story with his voice. Adam’s not going to use descriptions of regret and unease, because that’s not what he feels. We as readers might feel sorrow, disgust, pity, or loathing for the things that Adam chooses to do, but that’s the talent of the author. We’re allowed to see around Adam’s beliefs while maintaining the integrity of the narration. It’s beautifully done, actually.But yeah, this is a dark book. It’s dark and squicky and kind of makes me want to pour bleach in my ears. It’s not a book I’ll ever touch again. Subjectively, I can’t rate it as high as it might deserve for that very reason. But author dude, thumbs up to you, sir.Points Added For: The unique writing style and chapter structure, Adam’s rise to power, the psychological plausibility, the ending.Points Subtracted For: All the female objectification, the content that I had to skim in places because nope nope nope, Tommy.Good For Fans Of: Scarface, rise-to-power stories, conning mafia boys, metaphorical train wrecks.Notes For Parents: I kind of lost count of the content warnings, partially because I had to start skimming. Let’s just call it very much upper YA and leave it at that.Note: I received a review copy of this title from the publisher for review consideration.

Pr., 1997) familiar Oakland Avenue, a mostly Irish working-class neighborhood in Pittsburgh now threatened by university expansion. Bobby Kennedy has just been killed and the neighborhood is awash in sadness, self-pity, and discontent. Change does not come easily to this culture of pubs, the Church, hooligans, and in-bred cousins. Enter Daly Racklin?community fixture, sometime lawyer, and man of the streets. Mullin This is a moving novel about an aging lawyer and Pittsburgh native, Daly "Right" Racklin, who struggles to understand and live up to the legacy of his late father Boyce Racklin, a champion of the underdog and fellow Pittsburgh attorney. The first page of the novel paints a pretty bleak picture, as Daly is told by his doctor his heart is failing and that nothing can be done to extend his life beyond a year. Daly proceeds to try and get his life in order, all the while continuing to give of himself to family, friends, and relatives of deceased buddies who always seem to take advantage of his kindness and betray him. All of this takes place during the turbulent summer of 1968, after the assassinations of Bobby Kennedy and Dr. King.Daly comes off as almost Saint-like, especially early in the novel, where he exudes a sense of calm patience when the world seems to come apart around him. He cares for a family that steals from him, because he knew their deceased father and knew he would've done the same had Daly died young and left a widow with children. Daly carries on a friendship with a blind divorcee, Jessie, and then gets involved in an unlikely, whirlwind romance with a mystical woman (Gloria Scone) that he meets at a wake. All the while, Daly is frequently visited by visions of Pretty Boy Floyd, and we learn one of the most vivid memories of his childhood was a visit to the grass field where Floyd was gunned down.Overall, I thought this was a very moving novel, with the characters of Daly and Jessie drawn exceptionally well. The scenes in Oakland (a working class Pittsburgh neighborhood) pubs were excellent, as bartenders reminisced with Daly about his working class hero dad, the original "Right" Racklin. The author notes that it was difficult for Daly to live up the reputation of a good father. I also loved the road trip by Daly and his friends to NYC, to attend the funeral of RFK. Some of the plot twists seemed a little forced, ( I thought the whole Gloria Scone interlude was a little abrupt and unrealistic, and detracted from the novel), but overall it was an engaging read and a moving glimpse at a time and place that is infrequently visited.

This book provides everything about Tulsi and more. It is written by someone who certainly has a craft. Highly recommended for all.

I have enjoyed reading this small book and other small books , graciously given to me through your special days of free downloads. I'm a person who enjoys the indepth information on these various plants, rather then just the breif paragraph that is usually given in most essential oils books. Thank You so much!!

Moody's Men of the Bible isn't about all of the men of the Bible, but of Abraham, Moses, Naaman, Nehemiah, Herod (Antipas)and John the Baptist, the Man Born Blind and Joseph of Arimathea, the Penitent Thief.The are not biographies, but extended sermons on these men. Herod and John, Blind Man and Joseph are two paired sets that contrast and compare the two. They do not sound preachy, even if they are sermons, instead examining the lives of these men for the lessons we can gain from them. And are well done at that. The Blind man for example actually brought out more than most commentaries covering him and how he was healed and then examined by the Pharisees. Well worth reading.
