Can one mouse make a difference?

Cociel couldn't take it anymore. Like all the other mice on the Reservation, he was ruled by the tyrannical cats of the Kingdom, especially their so-called prime minister, the brutal and greedy Whiska. But all the other mice were terrified of taking action, and for good reason: Cociel's own mother had been jailed, as so many other mice had been.

But when Cociel finds out that Whiska plots to take over a portion of the Reservation and use it to hunt mice, he is determined to save his people from feline oppression. Whiska is required to run for election, but the elections had always been a sham because Whiska was the only candidate.

Now, Cociel enlists a book nerd parakeet, Mr. Byrd, to be the mice's candidate and champion. Together with the enterprising pig Piggles, they set out to ruffle the fur of the feline establishment and win a political revolution.

Yet Whiska, supported by his royal ally Strip, isn't going to leave without a fight. Mr. Byrd finds himself in a dungeon, awaiting a trial that will never take place. Can Cociel and Piggles save Mr. Byrd? Or will Whiska's reign of terror crush the hope for a better mice future?

This is the Bestest, Coolest, Awesomest Book EVER (=^.^=)~ By Caroline I am nine years old and I really think you should read this book just like I did. It was really interesting. My favourite characters were Cociel, Mr. Byrd and Piggles. I think that all the characters were REALLY REALLY realistic and probably what I could expect from real animals! And when the author described what the scene was or what something looked like I could imagine it in my head really easily. Some of my favourite animals were in this book which were cats, birds, mice and pigs and more!In this book Cociel (a little mouse, who reminds me of my cute little brother!) realises that all the cats are being bullies and that they try to scare all the mice so that they do what the cats want. So he goes to Mr. Byrd, a very shy bird who was told that he couldn’t do much, but Cociel still asks Mr. Byrd to try be elected to be Prime Minister. But Whiska - the current Prime Minister - doesn’t agree with Mr. Byrd trying. And he wants only himself to be on the ballot (which is kind of useless)! Strip, a prince cat, knows something about Mr. Byrd, and he’s arrested. But luckily, after a guiltless trial, he gets free. But I shouldn’t share too much so that you’ll find this book even more interesting. This book is my favourite book EVER and I can’t wait to read more.

It comes across as a cute children's tale in which a firebrand of a mouse named Cociel refuses to accept the fact that mice are forced to live on a reservation and are considered second class citizens to the cat ruling elite. Cociel teams up with other animals and plan to oust the rulers that are holding them back. It may indeed sound very similar to the plight of Native Americans, but it also contains elements very similar to Orwell's Animal Farm. What I took away from the book was that when people accept the status quo, they are doomed to a second rate life and when cooperation is present, great things can happen. Sullivan's book can and should be enjoyed by both young and old. I read this book as part of my Kindle Unlimited subscription.

I was drawn to author Emmanuel Sullivan's "The Catbyrd Seat" as it seemed to be incredibly original and places the feline in a position of pretty arrogant power and cats can certainly be viewed as stubbornly dictatorial. This was an absolutely delightful read for both me and my children. The plight of Cociel, Piggles, Mr. Byrd and the other creatures on the Reservation to outsmart the tyrannical Whiska was a fun, and sometimes tense, journey. This was a very well written story appropriate for young and old alike.
