Despite it being the Dark Ages, Maid Marion’s life is a perfect little slice of heaven -- until the day her father is murdered. Within hours, Marion inherits his vast fortune. Within days, a horde of bloodthirsty fanatics invade her village and take away everything she has. Running for her life, Marion is pursued across the medieval English countryside by enemies she didn’t even know she had. But Marion won’t give up so easily, and she’s about to meet the only people more dangerous than a horde of fanatics: a deadly gang led by the feared outlaw known only as The Hooded Man. A fresh and darkly comic take on the Robin Hood legends, The Bloody Maiden follows Marion’s quest to discover why the fanatics targeted her family, and to get vengeance for her father’s death, no matter the costs.

Thumping Good Read By Amazon Customer Of every ebook I've read so far (and I've read A LOT) this book definitely fits under the description, "Thumping Good Read"!The author does an amazing job giving us the flavor of medieval England complete with rye British humor and some hysterically funny and creative curses used by the characters. And speaking of characters, the character development is so finely crafted that even the minor ones have personality and a distinctive voice. It's always refreshing to read about strong female characters who take charge of their destiny and the characters of Marion and Rose do just that. You can't help falling in love with them. The male characters are fascinating as well. Even Friar Tuck, with all his irreverence, is an endearing character. He's also a hoot!If you want to gasp in wonder at non-stop action, laugh your butt off at bawdy and sometimes irreverent humor, while swiping your tablet eagerly to find out what will happen next, this is definitely the book for you. LaFuente's Bloody Maiden is a gripping, wildly entertaining yarn that belongs on the best seller list. It's not your father's Robin Hood. It's better!

Medieval meets modern sensibility in entertaining, twisted take on Robin Hood By Chris Kridler Mr. La Fuente's "The Bloody Maiden" is an entertaining, bloody medieval tale with modern sensibilities. The language layers old and new, and you've never read a take on Robin Hood like this, with twisted conflicts between devil-worshipers (and pagans and Christians), the often loathsome Friar Tuck, the confused but enthusiastic Merry Men, impish Robyn with dramatic tendencies, dreary peasants, a sociopathic evil lord, sleazy actors and the virtuous but kick-ass Maid Marion (so virtuous, there's zero romance in the book, in case you were looking for the classic relationship). Other characters lend complexity; as the drama, reversals and bodies mount, one can't help but root for them to succeed, no matter how messily they do it. The story is as crass as it is smart. And did I mention bloody? It's also funny and very enjoyable. I look forward to what I assume will be the next volume - hinted at here - which will give the stage to the nasty Sheriff of Nottingham, only obliquely mentioned in "The Bloody Maiden."

Corey Schubert This is one helluva fun read – fast-paced, full of surprises and lovable characters that leap right off the pages. The Bloody Maiden is one of those rare and magical books that quickly transports the reader to a lively world chock full of danger at every turn, yet so packed with adventure that you don’t want to leave.La Fuente delivers an adrenaline-filled campfire tale, told in the relaxed and laugh-out-loud tone of an energetic storyteller with plenty of wisdom and heart. While The Bloody Maiden pays great homage to the Robin Hood mythos, it’s a fresh and imaginative approach that leaves little chance of correctly guessing what will happen next. This is one of those suspenseful stories in which characters find themselves painted into tight corners, readers hurry to turn pages to see how things will turn out, and everyone ends up entertained each step of the way.Regardless of the type of genre you tend to prefer, this one’s highly recommended.
