This early work by Edgar Allan Poe was originally published in 1843. Born in Boston, Massachusetts in 1809, Poe became an orphan at a very early age. 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. This book has huge editing mistakes By Robert Etheredge I am a fan of The Gold Bug and have often used its code breaking strategy. However, this book is very poorly edited and the crucial encrypted message is displayed incorrectly, with 3 of the cypher characters being represented by the same ae character. They obviously had no editing or proofreading as this was probably just mapped over from an electronic version with the wrong character mapping but it ruins the crucial part of the book.

Awesome for a little book By Jen Ok ok I will say the N word is used in this book making it a little cringe worthy, however one must remember the era in which it was written. Fabulous story. I had never read a Poe story thinking they were lame. Boy was I wrong! The ending is the best part especially if you are a Forrest Fenn treasure hunter! I cannot wait to get my hands on more Poe literature!
