At first she can’t believe it, but then she starts getting flashbacks that seem to support what everyone around her is telling her, and this is only made worse by the fact that her boyfriend is missing presumed dead. Then she starts to receive ghostly messages telling her that her boyfriend is coming after her. With the help of her longtime friend Max, and Tate the new guy at her favourite shop, and a local psychic named Pearl, Blair tries to find out what really happened that night and why her boyfriend wants her dead before she becomes his victim once more. What I liked about this book was that it was a good paranormal mystery story. There were some twists towards the end of the book that I wasn’t expecting. Blair is the main character who has just graduated high school and I found her to be quite a likeable character. Her boyfriend Dylan came across as one of those guys who seem nice on the surface but have something dark and sinister bubbling away underneath, just waiting for something to trigger it. Tate who works at Blair’s favourite shop is an interesting character and it was nice to hint at a bit of romance between him and Blair. I also liked the addition of Max, a transgender character, who is Blair’s old school friend. What I didn’t like about this book was that it didn’t flow well and often seemed disjointed. It also suffered from the main complaint about self published works in that there were words missing from sentences which after awhile becomes irritating. It was otherwise easy to read but just felt as if it was written too quickly and released too early. It could really have benefited from more character development and a better, more seamless, flow in the writing. All in all, I didn’t mind this book. It was short, so it’s a quick read, and I read it in a few hours in one sitting. I would be interested in exploring other books by the same author to see if the writing style is any different.I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a ghostly mystery and who is looking for a quick read.

It should have been much longer like at least 200 pages or more I felt the whole story felt rushed. And for a standalone book to end on a cliffhanger is not cool. Standalone novels aren't suppose to end on a cliffhangers. But besides all that I really did love this book, the writing was good but rushed at times it had a great plot and premise. What lies Beneath had a very creepy horror atmosphere to it. If you want a quick horror thriller check this book out!

I don't know how to write about this without giving anything away so I am just going to say if you love a paranormal/thriller/mystery vibe, give this one a go.
