No one recognizes the man but it is clear to Winston that the weapon may implicate someone at Sandhurst. The last thing Police Inspector Bert Rankings wants is to investigate a murder with a cocky cadet whose father is in the House of Commons but he quickly realizes that young Churchill is able to navigate the nuances of high society better than he can. Winston finds himself thrust in the murky waters between the British Secret Service, a secret society in India, his military commander, the beautiful widow and the proclivities of the victim himself.

About the Author Suzanne Thompson lives with her husband in the mountains of North Carolina where they own a bookstore and are active supporters of the Friends of the Library. Suzanne got the idea to write about Winston Churchill when they were touring the WWI battlefields in Belgium and came across a plaque of Churchill in Ploegsteert, where he was posted in 1916 as Commanding Officer of the 6th Battalion of the Royal Scots Fusiliers. Winston Churchill’s true life adventures took him all around the world as a soldier, war correspondent, politician and artist. Deciding to follow in the footsteps of Churchill, the following year Suzanne and her husband went to England to visit the village of Camberley and were granted access to the archives at the Military College at Sandhurst. She is currently working on her next Winston Churchill mystery. Please visit the author’s web site www.suzanne-thompson.com.

She provides a very plausible view of Churchill's early life. This is a fast-paced book that held my interest throughout. I am looking forward to reading her next book.

It becomes a drawing room mystery at the end, which is okay, given the circumstances of the murder and its investigation.I'd read another by this author, but sincerely hope that she retains the services of a good proofreader. There are way too many mistakes in this book, including left-out words that totally change the meaning of the sentence. It tends to take one right out of the story, and that's never a good thing.

Paulis A great read - historical attention was recognizable, very easy read.I was impressed that the author was not verbally challenged - no need for the "shock" f, s, etc. words - The characters were verbally enabled to express disgust, doubt, fear, etc. with sentences that expressed their feelings, not the usual "shock" words that for some reason many authors feel compelled to use. Once again, a comfortable read with dialog!
