After the death of her grandmother, young novice priestess and healer, Ceridwen, is faced with the daunting responsibility of ministering to her Celtic tribe, at a time when spiritual leadership is most needed. It is over two hundred years since Roman invaders attempted to annihilate the Druids on the shores of the Island of Mona (Anglesey in North Wales). Is now is the time for healing and forging a future from that hateful carnage? Is her attraction to a Roman surgeon, Marcus, a weakness, or her destiny? Dare she allow herself to be drawn into a relationship with him, now that she will be expected to mate at the sacred time of Beltane; and how can she steer her tribe away from its current chieftain, who usurps the nobility of Druid leadership in exchange for a reign of intimidation and terror? Their lives entwine and unfold in the setting of Mynydd Llwydiarth - the sacred mountain on the island of Mona. Charged with passing the secrets and wisdom of her Druid training down the generations through the female line, she questions why she cannot conceive a girl child. The true magic she comes to learn, as her life unfolds, is more about love and loyalty than ritual, more about justice than tribe. Interpreted as an allegory of the era we live in, where there are clashes of both culture and ideals, we can empathise with the process; but, for both Ceridwen and Marcus it is an agonizing spiritual journey of self searching and response to their times. ‘Where Rowans Intertwine’ is an historical novel which will interest those who enjoy a mystical tale, a spiritual quest, and a dip into the past. It will fascinate those interested in things Celtic, Roman or Pagan, and create an awakening to healing and life purpose.

Where Rowans Intertwine, by Margaret Grant

About the Author After Drama school in London, where she won the best actress award the year following Helen Mirren, Margaret chose to make drama teaching her career and wrote many customized plays for her comprehensive school pupils. But rural life beckoned and she and her husband decided to bring up their young family on the island of Anglesey in North Wales. It was during her years there, living on the beautiful mountain of Mynydd Llwydiarth, that she became fascinated by its Druid past and began the research for her first novel, which she planned to write whenever time would afford. She returned to teaching in the 1980’s but this time to a primary school, where she enjoyed writing stories for morning assembly and creating dance dramas. Since her days in teaching she has enjoyed researching the lives of the elderly and has been involved in a variety of voluntary work. This has included Reiki healing, which has given her rich insights into the work of a healer and empathy with the main character in her first novel, ‘Where Rowans Intertwine’. Following a move to Sheffield, she concentrated on renovating an old farm worker’s cottage and writing the much-awaited novel. She won a local writing competition for BBC Radio Sheffield: ‘My Journey to Faith – How I became a Bahá’í’ – a humble accolade, but encouraging. The first novel ‘Where Rowans Intertwine’, is complete and published on Amazon Kindle, but the second one is brewing. Recently retired to Lincolnshire, she now has the freedom to make writing more of a career.

Every Page Brought a New Adventure By Alex Malczewski An absolute pleasure to read: It shines through how much the author really immersed herself into the history, characters and geographical surroundings to make this book so descriptive and easy to love. As the reader, I wanted Marcus and Ceridwen to succeed and didn't want to put the book down until I followed them to the end of their journey. It's beautifully written and easy to think of yourself in the characters' shoes during these times - I especially loved the Welsh names and references! The traditions of the different groups, Romans and Druids, throughout made for thought provoking reading and every page brought a new adventure. Looking forward to book two!

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. A Sexy and Sweet Witch Romance By PURPLE JEWELS A Witch's Luck was a little bit erotic and a lot sweet. Liliana is an 18 year old witch with only one gift and little magical talent. She is taunted , scorned and mistreated by most everyone around her and soon comes to feel that resistance to her plight is futile. It's time for her to be married according to their societal norms and her mother is determined that Liliana life goes just has she ,her mother that is, intends. All seems lost for poor Liliana until she receives a certain gift. My heart went out to Liliana, the main character, and I empathized with her lack of confidence and low self esteem. That mother of hers should burn in the very fiery pits of lower level of hell. I also empathized with and liked Brody. I thought that he and Liliana made a wonderful couple. The plot is original and the writing is pretty good. It's a stand alone read. No cliffhanger ending. The story contain romance, a little suspense, adventure and some rather explicit love scenes. I gave it 4 star because I enjoyed it.

Could a forth book e added that carries on in Germany THANK YOU. STEPHANIE

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Beautiful and well written By Andréa I’ve been waiting so long for a good phantom-continuation book! They really are my guilty pleasure, but unfortunately are rarely well written. There are so many things I love about this read.*There may be spoilers below*First of all, everyone is in character. Some people may argue that Christine is very out of character, but I can definitely see her getting jealous after knowing her Angel of Music has been growing fond of another woman. The evolution of her character is extreme, but it’s very believable in this book. After all, she was basically a child in the original novel, and people grow based on the circumstances they are presented. Thankfully, her actions are totally redeemed in the end. (As are Raoul’s).A lot of phantom books make Christine into an bad character so that it is more understandable that the Phantom would want to move on (also so we prefer the new character), but that really isn’t the case here. Erik is still irrevocably in love with Christine for the majority of the trilogy, and it is a real struggle with him throughout the series.Raoul and Christine are both extremely naive and frustrating in the best way. They totally deserve each other. They really are love-to-hate characters. As for Anna, I love love love her! I love it when a female protagonist has a backbone. She’s a strong character, and I really appreciate that.I got such a rise throughout the book and the characters made me so angry at times (in a good way). I like when characters and situations make me really angry or sad, because it only makes a good ending sweeter. However, if the ending is totally stupid and unsatisfying (ahem Secret Door), I feel like I got all emotional for nothing and waisted my time. So brava to Jennifer for actually pulling that off! It’s really tricky to do in these types of books. The ending was incredibly beautiful, and I finished the book feeling satisfied. There were no loose ends so hooray!Throughout the three books I didn’t once get an immature phanfiction vibe. There were two or three errors (at least on the kindle version), but beside those the books were very well written. I’m left wondering why such a wonderful writer doesn’t have more books out. I’ll definitely be following Jennifer and she is now one of my favorite authors. All in all, thank you for a beautiful read Ms. Linforth! I can’t imagine a phantom related novel getting much better than that!

By Matthew Hodges Written in a style akin to my grandfathers, Sears provides some excellent advice to greenhorns as well as old woodsmen. Having camped in established campgrounds as well as backpacking in the backwoods and the Appalachian Trail, I only wished I had read this earlier.Much of the material is dated and many will find it lacking for modern camping in the established campgrounds, however the prudent camper would do well to read and understand what it took to be an experienced woodsman in the days before modern campgrounds.

A Must Have for Any Bushcraft Library By Papa Bear George Washington Sears or "Nessmuk" - his nom de plume, is a must read for all who enjoy the outdoors and camping of the "old ways". This book is one of the best reads for those who practice Bushcraft and Self Reliance in the outdoors. And for any of you followers of Dave Canterbury, this book has had a great influence on the crafting his philosophies for self reliance and his "common man" approach to the outdoors.

Very descriptive and vivid. You'll learn a lot and not be able to put it down. Nessmuk's stories about adventures in the woods are great and will inspire you to spend more time 'out there' and less time inside.

Until a thousand years ago, Celtic history was written by its enemies. Then, in the eleventh century, Christian monks started collecting the oral records and transcribing them. Their sources were the best of the bards whose genius defied the ravages of time; they were, of course, mostly concerned with the doings of the rich and powerful. Ordinary clansmen and women were rarely lauded in song and verse unless selected by the fairies to overcome their humble birth. Then, as now, ordinary folk had family histories important to them in defining who they are. This volume is intended to set the record a little straighter by following the oral traditions of a family of swordsmiths from their origins in the shadow of the Acropolis on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea through the towns and villages along the River Danube in the Hallstatt era to Britain in the years immediately following the incursion by Julius Caesar. The family developed their metal-working skills at the close of the Bronze Age and went on to contribute to the development of steel. They became the acknowledged masters of swordmaking in Europe and the story concludes with the latest of the long line of Weyland Smiths forging EXCALIBUR.

Harry Flashman: the unrepentant bully of Tom Brown's schooldays, now with a Victoria Cross, has three main talents - horsemanship, facility with foreign languages, and fornication. A reluctant military hero, Flashman plays a key part in most of the defining military campaigns of the 19th century despite trying his utmost to escape them all.

When our hero Flashman accepts an invitation from his old enemy, Tom Brown of Rugby, to join in a friendly cricket match, he does not suspect that he is letting himself in for the most desperate game of his scandalous career.

What follows is a deadly struggle that sees him scampering from the hallowed wicket of Lord's to the jungle lairs of Borneo pirates, from a Newgate hanging to the torture pits of Madagascar, and from Chinatown's vice dens to slavery in the palace of the female Caligula herself, Queen Ranavalona of Madagascar.

Had he known what lay ahead, Flashman would never have taken up cricket seriously.

I personally think that Frasier missed his calling: he should have been a sportswriter. The cricket game, with poor idiot Elspeth as the prize, is told so well that I've re-read it several times. Each of the worlds he creates, Frasier fills with such colorful characters that they are three-dimensional. The cricket game brings us Deadlius Tighe, esq., a classic scoundrel; Singapore is personified in Catchick Moses; and British imperial/missionary zeal in James Brooke. (The depiction of Brooke inspired me to read everything that I could find on this fighting seaman and colonizer.) Best of all is a villan equal to Flashy himself: Sulemann Usman. The novel gives the reader the wide world, and does it in such a way as to make it seem real, as in the eyes of a 19th century mind. A keeper that brings genuine enjoyment with every re-reading. -Lloyd A. Conway

Flashy shows a spark of selflessness in spite of himself By Mr. Joe In the 1966 screen adaptation of A MAN FOR ALL SEASONS, Sir Thomas More (Paul Scofield) advises his daughter Meg (Susannah York):"If (God) suffers us to come to such a case that there is no escaping, then we may stand to our tackle as best we can. And, yes Meg, then we can clamor like champions, if we have the spittle for it. But it's God's part, not our own, to bring ourselves to such a pass. Our natural business lies in escaping."One of the most endearing qualities of author George MacDonald Fraser's anti-heroic protagonist, Harry Flashman, is his natural cowardice, which he freely admits with a certain degree of pride. Flashy is an expert at escaping; More would have been impressed. In that volume of his memoirs entitled FLASHMAN'S LADY, Flashy is still young in the mid-1840s. His talent for a prudent and precipitous departure has yet to mature, as evidenced by his delayed response when beset by thugs in a dodgy section of Singapore:"I'm not proud of what happened in the next moment. Of course, I was very young and thoughtless, and my great days of instant flight and evasion were still ahead of me, but even so, with ... my native cowardice to boot, my reaction was inexcusable ... in my youthful folly and ignorance, I absolutely stood there gaping ..."The larger portion of this book's plot involves the kidnapping of Flashy's beautiful but scatterbrained wife, Elspeth, by a certain Don Solomon Haslam, a moneyed and mannered member of English high society who's not what he seems. Harry's determination to stay out of harm's way is severely taxed as he pursues Elspeth's rescue into the pirate-infested interior of Borneo, and later into Madagascar, where Flashy finds himself the slave of that island's mad and despotic queen, Ranavalona.A chief attraction of Fraser's Flashman series is the knowledge it gives the reader about historical and factual, but arcane, events and places. In FLASHMAN'S LADY, the reader is apprised of the private war against the pirates of the East Indies by the eccentric English imperialist, James Brooke, and the reign of terror perpetuated by that female Caligula of the period, Queen Ranavalona I of Madagascar. Indeed, the author's research into the latter has prompted me to place a non-fiction history of the subject on my Wish List.Deep down, I think, Flashy's personal appeal is based on the realization that he's Everyman, whether one would wish to admit it or not. Our natural preference is to escape, and it's only through blundering circumstance, good luck, or an odd quirk of fate that any one of us might, like Harry himself, be perceived a hero by our fellows.

Flash Outshined By Gio Harry Flashman - despicable poltroon or modest unreliable narrator, depending on your literary whim - shows himself eclipsed by a bolder rogue and a genuine hero in the first half of this too-long novel. The bolder rogue kidnaps Harry's wife, and the genuine hero, the authentic White Rajah of Sarawak, rescues her... almost.By far the most entertaining portion of this sixth Flashman novel is the first quarter, which features a hilarious account of cricket as played in Jolly Old England in the middle of the 19th C. Harry, naturally, is a cricket phenom, whose skill is exceeded only by his skullduggery. Then Harry find himself once more en route to hellish adventures in the colonies. His travelogue description of Singapore is worth the price of a ticket there, and in Singapore, he encounters James Brooke, the White Rajah, the Hotspur character who overshadows him for another quarter of the text. The second half of the book is effectively another novel, one that seems thin and anticlimactic after the first. Harry gets himself imprisoned in the clutches of a madwoman-queen. Finally he escapes. Ho hum. But another side of our Flashman is revealed; he actually risks his skin to save his addlepated little wifey. How will we ever be certain again that he's as much of a coward as he boasts?Author GM Fraser introduces an innovation in this volume; part of the story is told by Mrs. Flashman, in the form of pages from her diary. She's not the narrator her husband is.Except for the cricket chapters, this is a less amusing Flash than the others I've read. If you're plowing your way through the life story of England's most meretricious hero, you have every right to skip an episode now and then. The more I think about it tonight, the more uncomfortable I find myself getting over the question of whether one should laugh or vomit at Harry's racism and sexism. I begin to think I'm obliged to do both, or else give the series up.
