I received a copy in exchange for an honest review.Abagail, Leona, and Rorick are still trying to make it to the Harbingers of Light before the darklings overcome them and the part inside her takes her from them. She has figured out something interesting out about her power but is it to late to use it for her benefit? The trail seems to be taking them to long, a new elf seems to be helping them but why does Abigail not trust her but the others trust her to much? And when will Celeste come back to maybe shed some light on it?Very good book

Another fae comes to help them but Abby does not trust her. But what can you trust in a strange new world? This book has some good twists and turns and had me on the edge of my seat. * I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review*

All I could see from where I stood Was three long mountains and a wood; I turned and looked another way, And saw three islands in a bay. One of my dreams as an adult in a technical world is to have the ability to have poetry with me all the time -- Kindle has the ability to fulfill this wish.As a start, I began browsing Amazon's list of available poetry. I was leery, because I was certain some of these probably had been converted without consideration for indexing or making sure the poems looked as the authors intended. So,I requested samples of many books, and found that I was correct. For all of the "classics" that I sampled, the formatting was abysmal and there was no index. I sampled one "self published" volume which was beautifully formatted -- but the content was abysmal. It did prove it could be done, though. When I came upon this edition in the list, I found this statement: "This kindle digital edition of Renascence and Other Poems has been professionally designed and maintains the quality of the original classic publication." "Hooray!" I thought, and purchased it immediately, without bothering with a sample. As you have probably surmised, I was so disappointed. There is no index or table of contents. Long poems (Renascence in particular) are formatted more like paragraphs for a novel than lines of poetry. There is no break between the poems -- titles are not in bold or italics or in any other way set apart from the content of the poem itself. If you were a reader who is not familiar with the works, you might not be able to tell where one poem ended and another began.I still am looking forward to being able to easily carry around electronic editions of my favorites, because I am certain someday someone will publish e-versions of poetry volumes that are equal to the print versions. Maybe there are some already out there that I have yet to find.I did give this two stars rather than just one, because the content still is the searing work that spoke to my heart when I first discovered it on my Mother's bookshelf when I was a teenager.Oh -- as a side note -- there is no category of "poetry" in the list of Kindle book. I search for poetry to find it.Renascence and Other Poems

Never have I read more captivating words about life and losing someone of importance. I have looked for these words, the ones that expressed what I was feeling for many years and found them waiting in Edna's book. . .just incredible.

Between, by Dora Hilburn

Review Between the pages of BETWEEN, a classic ghost story, are delicate, atmospheric moments of illusion and trust in the impossible, impossible, improbable . . . yet love blooms for Anna, who is seventeen, and Wyatt, who died in battle decades before Anna was born. The two share longing and boundless passion, body and spirit affirming Shakespeare's words: 'Parting is such sweet sorrow.' Author Dora Hilburn brings her characters to rich life in a romantic triangle, a tender tale of first love, and a battle of good and evil, ultimately reminding us that love is, indeed, eternal. --Lois F. Ruby, author of Rebel Spirits and Steal Away HomeIn Anna, Hilburn has created a heroine who is real and relatable. One moment heart-warming, the next moment heart-breaking, BETWEEN movingly explores the wrenching choices Anna must make when she discovers love in the unlikeliest of places. The seaside town of Apalachicola provides a beautiful and haunting backdrop for this otherworldly coming-of-age romance. --Denise Getson, author of Dry SoulsDora's lyrical way with story-telling draws you in from the first word and doesn't let you go until long after the last word. After reading BETWEEN, you'll never think of ghosts the same way. Dora has hit a definite home run with her debut. --Prepublication review from K. Anne Raines, author of Shattered Grace

About the Author Dora Hilburn lives in Texas and travels to the Florida panhandle each summer where she loves to walk on the beach and explore the little towns sprinkled along the coast. Her love of reading started at an early age when she'd sometimes stay up all night because a story was just too good to put down. She is delighted that she's passed that love of reading on to her two teenaged daughters.Dora loves spooky stories served up with a dash of romance and a protagonist who is strong and smart. She writes stories her daughters would love to read--as well as her daughters friends and their moms. Between is one of those stories. Visit her at facebook.com/author.dora.hilburn.

As a teen who usually doesn't like paranormal books By Regina Duong As a teen who usually doesn't like paranormal books; this one captured my attention. Dora is also very descriptive so you can visualize every scene in the book from start to finish, and I was always kept on my feet! This novel doesn't fail to grab your interest and keep you sucked in. Highly recommend!

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Sweet YA paranormal romance for Tweens and teens By QueenBook When seventeen year old Anna moves into the house she inherited, she plans to restore it and sell it to fund her college education. Her plan goes sideways when she encounters a ghost, a WW 1 soldier who grew up in the house, and develops an intense interest in him. Things become more confusing when she is befriended by a local who wants to help her restore her house and an attraction sparks between them. This was a sweet paranormal romance appropriate for all ages, but would be most enjoyed by middle school and high school readers. While not scary, there was adequate suspense and a creepy threat to the protagonist. There were holes -- some things were resolved in a way that felt too pat, and there was insta-love which might annoy more discerning readers. The premise clearly states there WILL be a love triangle, so steer clear if you hate those. However, the ending was satisfying, and it wasn't inappropriate in any way -- seriously light sensuality. I received an ARC if this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Was Not Thrilled In The Least By Jody J I wanted to like this book, and I tried my best. There are parts I did enjoy but not enough to give it a five star review. The editing was terrible, I have never seen so many mistakes in a book in all the time I have been reading and reviewing books. They want you to give an honest review and this is my honest review. I did like Anna, but she was a very naive character when it came to life in general, at least for me I felt she was. I just could not get into the book, and I really wanted to like this book. I would put it down and tell myself I could not finish it, but I picked it back up and forced myself to continue reading this book. The plot could have been a very good one if Ms. Hilburn would have not continued to drag the story lines out. I received this book from NetGalley to read and give my honest and un-biased review. I would like to thank them for the opportunity to read this book.

It has a really nice flow throughout, and the imagery of the little tale is wonderful. It has a spirit of its only, and almost feels like a develish incantation to be used as a means of revenge.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. A Fast-Paced, Addictive Thriller! By Believer "Catalyst" the exciting and gripping sequel to "Control" begins a year after Cyrad (Cy) William traded his life to SunAj for Zelia Benten and her sister Dylia's freedom. When Carus House is attacked by armoured police Zel and her family of genetic outcasts flee to a rumoured safe haven in Chicago. On the run with Caliga a former enemy, Zelia hears the whispered voice of Cy as she gets closer to the border. Determined to follow her gut feeling that he survived the assault on Aureus House, she's shocked to discover him in a tent filthy and thin, curled protectively around Élodia (Blink).Fearing that she's lost Cy as she struggles with jealousy, Zelia begins a quest to find a safe port in the storm of controversy that swirls around her family because of HGM-2098 a policy that outlaws any radical aberrations in the genetic makeup of humans. What she doesn't expect is to discover truth about her past and her father's work that could influence their acceptance by the outside world. The plot is imaginative and fast-paced as old animosities are forgiven and new alliances and friendships are forged. With twists and turns the story progresses quickly and smoothly, heating up with a getaway from Neia authorities into Inky where women are prized for their fertility and there is no escape. In a story that abounds with mysteries of a rumoured list of genetically enhanced children and a safe haven in Minwi that's not on any map, the suspense intensifies, ending in a confrontation that has Zel using her power of persuasion to gain their freedom. The atmosphere of this plot is dark, violent, and threatening, diluted periodically by the humour in Caliga and Zel's sarcastic banter and Spork's antics and abnormal speech. In a story that blends science, adventure and romance, Lydia Kang has created unforgettable and complex characters like Zelia Benten who's feisty and resourceful, gifted with not only a longevity trait but an enhanced sense of smell. She's highly family oriented and in love with the calm, strong-willed and steadfast Cy William who continues to be haunted by his sister's misfortune. Like Zel he has developed a new ability that he can barely control and fears hurting those he loves. In this tale Zel and Cy's love is tested with his friendship with Élodia, a French Canadian who hates her mutant ability and will do anything to get rid of it including betraying her friends. Snarky Caliga Jacobsen, and flirtatious, untrustworthy Micah Kw prove to be selfless and brave, saving those they once thought of as enemies. In contrast Julian/Sean, dual beings sharing a brain is an intimidating, heartless predator who masks his aggression behind the understanding, compassion and insecurity of his alter ego. And these are only a few of the multiple personalities that add emotional intensity, passion and power to an adventure that's highly addictive.I was swept away by this futuristic scientific thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat from the first chapter to the last. I rate it highly and look forward to reading Lydia Kang's next novel.

I wasn’t a huge fan of Control (which was disappointing, since I had hoped to love it!) and it took me a few weeks before I decided I was ready to pick up Catalyst. Though it wasn’t without its faults, I definitely enjoyed the plot, connected more with the characters and felt satisfied with the ending.Zelia ended up having a lot of character growth in the end, which was nice since she didn’t have too much growth in Control. She had a lot of personal revelations and a lot of things she went through in Control, don’t get me wrong. But she didn’t grow much. In Catalyst, I felt like she had to focus and take charge more. She couldn’t make the rash decisions she made in Control. More people were depending on her this time around.Once again, I feel like we didn’t see much of Dyl. Though we saw enough for me to know she also had some character growth, I can’t say how much or exactly why. I was really hoping to see more of her in Catalyst, but I enjoyed the parts we did see her in. First of all, she was in a better, safer environment. So her health was better, as was her mental and emotional state. She was very focused on the tasks given to her and she had to be incredibly mature to get through some of the revelations that were thrown her way.Once again, Cy annoyed me for the first half of the book. He refused to open up to Zelia and seek her help. He kept everything to himself, believing it would somehow protect her. I’m so sick of male love interests who think they can “protect” someone by keeping secrets. And even once he started “opening up” and being kind to her again, I still had a hard time liking him because I couldn’t get past how he treated Zelia previously. Again, re: Arin from The Winner’s Curse!I know we probably weren’t supposed to like or trust Caliga, but I definitely felt sorry for her and she definitely grew on me. Of all the characters, I loved her growth the most. She became one of my favorite characters. On the other hand, Micah was.. Frustrating. Every move was calculated, meant to put him on the winning team. I wanted to like him so, so much. But I just couldn’t trust him, so I could never fully like him. But then that ending.. Wow.. I really didn’t expect that. And then there was Blink. Well. I never liked her and I never trusted her. And I’m not entirely shocked by the way things ended with her.The revelation with Kria didn’t surprise me at all. I think that reveal was supposed to be A Big Deal. But it felt really anticlimactic, honestly. And the revelations with Zelia and Dylia’s father.. That made me sad, too. But I loved, loved, LOVED Marka and who she was to all the kids in their little group. She was the mother figure they all needed and I adored her.The plot was definitely more intriguing in Catalyst than it was in Control. Catalyst is broken down into three parts – Part one was my favorite. I loved the events in part one, as well as the excellent pacing; part one just flew by! Part two had some interesting revelations and a few intriguing events took place. But otherwise, part two was my least favorite; it was slow-paced and it dragged. Finally, while part three was better than part two, it was still a bit meh. The idea of Wingfield was awesome in theory, but poorly executed. And in the end, it was a moot point. The ending felt a bit rushed but it was interesting. I know this was the end of the duology, but I’d kinda like to know what happens next, see how things turn out for everyone. I don’t know if a third book is necessary, but maybe a short sequel novella or something. I’d definitely read that! So, with all the negatives listed above, I’m sure you’re curious why I rated this 4-stars. Because, despite some complaints, I really did enjoy Catalyst a LOT more than Control. The plot was more intriguing, the pace picked up (especially in part one and part three) and I connected a lot more with the characters, even when they frustrated or annoyed me. I still liked them and felt for them, way more than I did with Control. And despite the rushed ending, the ending was very intriguing. Though I still have questions and would love to see what happens next, the ending felt like it wrapped up in a realistic way that was appropriate for the characters and where their story was by the end of the book.If you loved Control, you’ll definitely enjoy Catalyst. And if you were on the fence about Control, then I’d definitely give Catalyst a chance – It just might surprise you!

By Jen S I was really happy to read Catalyst right after Control because after the end Lydia Kang left my heart in a little bit of a lurch.I thought the first book focused on a lot of Science, I felt like this one really focused on the political aspects of their world. What it means to be someone with genetically altered genes and how everyone else sees you. It was crazy to get more insight into Zelia and Dylia’s dad and also their mother. Some things I did not even guess honestly but made complete sense when they were laid out in the book. The gang is forced to flee Carus house and head towards a rumored safe house in Chicago. This causes them to have to split up in order to get there safely. It was really different to have Zel travel with a new band of companions. I felt like when we reunite with some of the others I felt like it was weird. Zel on her way ends up finding herself in Inky and a whole different kind of mess/imprisonment. I think it was probably the most creeped out that I have felt for the two books. It was one of those odd places where they are well taken care of physically but emotionally it was awful.Zelia really kind of comes into herself in a different way. She accepts who/what she is and realizes that maybe running is not the answer. I love how she encourages everyone to embrace who they are instead of feeling damage or misplaced. She becomes a leader without realizing that’s what she is doing.Zel and Cy find each other again but there is a little bit of struggle to their relationship. They still love eachother but they have been apart for a year and different things have happened to them. So it’s almost like they have to figure out their place again combining old and new.I hated Blink from beginning to end. I just needed to get that out there, I don’t care if she’s good, bad or orange. What she convinced Cy to do makes my blood boil. I can relate because of one of my siblings so I was just so angry.I loved the addition of so many different characters. I don’t want to give away who they are or what their different talents are but it was fun to see the world expand.I thought this was such a great sequel to the first book. I felt like it focused on a little bit different aspect so things could come together seamlessly at the end. Which I thought the ending was perfect. This was really a great Sci-Fi series and I highly recommend it.

A Zombie Apocalypse may seem like a fantasy right now. But what happens when an outbreak hits? Will you be prepared? The Zombie Apocalypse is a disaster few believe will truly ever occur despite how it has captured the popular imagination. The Center for Disease Control and the Pentagon have developed zombie apocalypse scenarios. If these powerhouses of the American government can take the apocalypse seriously so can you. Just imagine, the world as you know it changing drastically. Your city bent to the breaking point by a natural disaster so massive that there is nowhere to turn to for help except yourself. The power has shut down, there’s no one to run it. The cell towers you so often depended on have gone dark. Even the water, a life sustaining necessity, is only running intermittently. All this and you still must find some way to survive until help comes. Who can you trust aside from yourself? The natural human race is slowly turning into Zombies and your choice becomes fight, flight or get your brains eaten.

It's Okay By zombie phreak Well there's not much I can say about this that I haven't said about other "Survival Guides" that are set in the Zombie Apocalypse. It's got all the basics in there, shelter, food, weapons, transportation, etc. It's no "Zombie Survival Guide," by Max Brooks, but it's entertaining to read. There's nothing that really makes it stand out, and the information inside of it is mostly common sense that anyone who has watched any zombie movies or read any zombie books would know. There are also a bunch of grammar mistakes in there, like a word missing here and there or a mix up in the sentence structure and that's a little annoying. One last thing I wanted to address about this book was that the cover was really awesome and it really grabs your attention when you're scrolling through the titles on Amazon. If you have some time, it's worth reading. Check it out.

But who knows, desires to fly and talk on wireless phone were imaginations some hundreds of years back and now they are real. A well written book protecting from zombies, making a house base, ensuring adequate supply of food and water. Keeping pets, children and elders safe. Fighting in case it is needed. Choosing partners, seeking help from other people and moving out. Five stars to the imagination and the strategies proposed , a unique concept !

By Tyler Very fun book!Anytime I hear people talk about surviving the zombie apocalypse I get a good laugh. However, if it does happen fortunately I have this book to guide me along the way.I should also add this book has abundance of real survival scenarios and directions that actually can help a person with basic survival needs.Fun read, definitely recommend. Also, its a good length of a book, not too short, not too long.
