By Martita The story is a story about a Little Mermaid in a dark dull and gloomy post-war world where everybody's struggilng with their everyday lives. From the very beginning there is an overwhelming feeling that this story has no happy ending, yet, there is still hope that Syrenka will make her dreams come true and the Prince will love her. However, this is not a love story, but a story about people themselves. About any human being who is struggling with his/her imperfections and is ready to sacrifice something important and precious to get something that they feel they need more than any other thing. The lesson is that one should learn to appreciate what they have and not what they have lost- there is no sense in changing yourself for somebody to love you, because they should love you just the way you are.I loved it and read it in one breath. Thank you! I want more! ;)
0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Not what I expected By Modupe Hendricks The book Syrenka is a dark fairytale. The story reminds me a lot of the Little Mermaid but much darker. I thought about the story for several days before I attempted to write this review and could not decide whether to give this book a two star or three star rating because of my unhappiness with the ending, I decided to split the difference and rate the book 2.5. I doubt that I will read anything else from this author.

It honestly had the feel of the original Grimm tales, which I adore. I started reading it and was going to just read half, finish the other half later, but I ended up reading the whole thing. I could easily read a dozen more stories done like this.
