About the Author James Boschert is the author of the popular Talon Series. Set in twelfth-century Palestine, the novels follow the adventures of a young Frankish boy, captured on a pilgrimage and raised as a Hashashin Assassin in Persia. Talon's adventures include: "Assassins of Alamut," "Knight Assassin," "Assassination in Al-Qahirah," "Greek Fire," and "A Falcon Flies." 14 of 15 people found the following review helpful. Assassins of Alamut By lover of tales I finished Assassins of Alamut bitterly resenting the fact that it had to end at all. When the sequel comes out, I'll be first in line to get the next volume, and that line is going to be a long one.James Boschert knows his subject. He understand medieval Persia, and he understands and speaks Farsi, the language of Persia. That makes a tremendous difference to the validity of his story. A short way into Assassins of Alamut, I realized I'd found a writer who knows the Edwardian adventure novel and has carried that tradition into the twenty-first century. If you've ever read and enjoyed John Buchan's or H. Rider Haggard's or Rudyard Kipling's adventure tales (and if you're a fan of Raider of the Lost Ark), this is a book for you.

At last a book on the subject that creates humans rather than 1 dimensional characters By johnag007 With today's technology allowing us into so many engrossing stories, and reading somewhat fewer, it is rare that the senses tingle at our fantasies that only the written arts can open up. This book was absolutely spot on, the pace, the background imagery of the lives lived, and taken, and the aura of a world aptly described in the way that only a very good writer can, complete enough for the imagination to take over, certain that the building blocks given to it are solid and entrancing.As you can see I thoroughly enjoyed it, and I would say it would make a much better movie than Prince of Persia for example or Kingdom of Heaven.Personally what fascinates about this book though is the knowledge that the author literally spent part of his own life visiting Iran and immersing himself in its history, translating that into a story which we in "Western World" know not much of, and care even less for. I very much wish as a person working in finance that I could one day escape and write my own dreams having put them to the test of history.I very much hope we do not have to wait too long for the next instalment the author's site talks about!

The bandits wisely attacked the wagons, drawing the knight guard to the fray at the front of the group while another band of heavily armed men and horses attacked the rear. Although the knights fought bravely, Talon was abducted and has now become a prisoner of the Saracens. The author of this novel, James Boschert, takes us into the world of twelfth century Persia. He brings to life characters with strengths and weaknesses we can believe in and follow on their journeys. His descriptions of the physical world those characters inhabit make us dream of visiting that land. He shares a love of animals (horses and dogs in particular), understanding the need to hunt for sustenance. Most cleverly, he teaches us the life of an apprentice in the secret brotherhood of the Assassins. The relationships which develop as this story unfolds will keep us turning the pages, wondering what will happen next. Read and learn of Talon's fate following his abduction!
