From USA Today Bestselling author Tiffany King, comes her next Young Adult Contemporary Romance. If you're a teenager in a small, rural area, how do you exist when your eccentric, free-spirited parents are the town freaks everyone laughs at? For sixteen-year-old Rainbow Honeywell—or Rain, as she insists on being called—the answer was to become the queen of all pranks. She never wanted to be a troublemaker, but the label quickly stuck when everyone in Huntsville, Kansas, became a target. All she wanted was to deflect the negative attention off her parents, but Rain's plan backfired to the max, landing her in a heap of trouble with the local authorities and expelled from high school. An unexpected inheritance offers Rain an opportunity for a new beginning when she and her family move across the country to the quaint beach community of Turtle Bay, Florida. Determined to make the best of her second chance, Rain vows to walk the straight and narrow, hoping her parents will fly under the radar while she soaks up some fun in the sun, sandy beaches, and hot, tanned guys. Unfortunately, she picks the wrong new friends, and a late night party lands her back in the kind of trouble she had been hoping to avoid. As the newbie in town with a record, Rain takes the brunt of the punishment when an unforgiving judge chooses to make an example out of her and slaps her with enough community service hours to keep her busy until she is old and gray. Facing the harsh reality of paying for the actions of others while atoning for her own past sins, Rain is paired up with Josh Shaw, a judgmental local lifeguard whose love for the beach and the environment is eclipsed only by his distaste for those who trash it. As far as Josh is concerned, Rain is guilty and got what she deserved, regardless of her side of the story. To make matters worse, a tropical storm sits in the Atlantic, threatening to wreak havoc on the small beach community. Things slowly change as Rain begins to appreciate her surroundings through Josh's eyes, proving she is not the person he thinks she is. Their feelings for one another blossom as the tropical storm grows into a hurricane and bears down on Turtle Bay. With impending danger looming, the small beach community must come together in order to ride out the storm.

The story flowed from beginning to end, with a sweet uncomplicated plot, an interesting heroine, an intriguing good-guy, a hurricane, turtles, and a bit of bittersweet.Rainbow or Rain, as she has demanded to be called, is the daughter of hippies. As the years have bounced along, her parents outlandishly eccentric ways have pushed her to become a pranking troublemaker in a desperate bid to pull the attention away from them. After a particular prank lands her being expelled from school, it coincides with her mother receiving an inheritance - money and a house in Florida.Arriving in their new home, Rain immediately finds herself in a wrong place, wrong time kind of situation that lands her with a massive amount of community service hours and being stuck with a guy who has a completely wrong impression of her. From there on, it gets all kinds of sweet. As Rain, a very likable girl, finds herself with a new friend, a new boy and a new life. As she bounces along through the story she finds that maybe having weirdly eccentric parents may not be the worst thing after all. And that the guy she thought was a jerk may just be the guy for her.I loved Rain and ultimately after getting over the initial meeting of Josh with his slightly judgmental and grouchiness towards Rain, I began to love him as well. Together Rain and Josh have a wonderfully sweet chemistry. There is one scene especially that had me grinning like a fan-girl.But, I think the characters that stole the show for me though were Rain's parents, Butch and Buttercup. Absolute best parents in a book - ever. They are the bees knees of awesome. It was really great to read a YA novel with two steady, present parents.Overall, this was an easy read, with a sweet and wonderful story all wrapped up in cuteness. With great characters, awesome writing, and a beautiful setting, I couldn't have liked it more. If you're in the mood for a sweet and wonderful YA read, then definitely give Turtle Bay a chance.Originally posted on Me, Myself & Books

If it isn't blatantly obvious from this blog, I love anything to do with the beach and beach books are no exception. I love this cover and have been dying to read the book since the minute I saw it.Characters and relationshipsI felt like this book was driven by the different relationships in it. I loved Rain and Josh both and it was fun to watch their relationship go from where it started, which wasn't good, to, well, where it went (no spoilers here) it was wonderful. I really loved the other cast of characters that were in the book as well. Rain's parents were eccentric to say the least, but also they were very loving toward her and respectful of her as well. I LOVED Farrah, who ended up being a great friend to Rain, and wouldn't mind visiting Turtle Bay again and having a book for Farrah to maybe find love herself. I loved the way the relationships in this book were all centered around their different parental situations which was a lot of what drove their actions which is so true to life that I really enjoyed it.Is this a kissing book?Yep! Hello...Tiffany King knows how to write a decent kiss and I love how she can keep things just right for a YA audience at the same time. I'll just say that Josh was pretty swoony!Don't leave me hangingThis is definitely a stand alone book but there is much room for companion novels for other characters which I would love. I would love to see a prequel type book for Larry even. These characters are just so lovable! The Best GemsMovingSand BaggingPartiesSea TurtlesMaking FriendsHippie VanFinding Someone To LoveThe Sum UpFrom the moment I saw this book I knew it was going to be a must read for me. Tiffany King certainly has my number when it comes to writing and I can't express how much I adored Turtle Bay. From start to finish it kept me wanting to read (and ignore my chores) and can't imagine a teenage girl out there that wouldn't enjoy this fantastic beach book on their summer vacation this year!

Her books always have the best characters and a unique storyline. And that is exactly what I found in Turtle Bay.Kings characters are the ones that get overlooked by the popular crowd and have interesting circumstances. They always feel real and genuine.Rain has some pretty interesting parents that any teen would be trying to hide from their judgmental peers. Her less than perfect behavior is a ploy to avoid the ridicule of those peers. And her attempts to recover from her mistakes finds lots of problems before any real recover can happen. Felt very true to life.Josh is adorable. His passion for the environment helps him deal with the lacks he has at home. His job has become his family and life. He's attracted to Rain but he's patient and sweet as he gets to know her. Josh is a good guy. Not a jerk or a bad boy, a good guy - and he's exactly what Rain needs. The story is sweet. As these two get over their not so perfect first meeting and the misunderstanding that lands Rain in community service, they get to know each other and support each other. What I loved was that they each accepted the other for who they were. And they both learned from the other in ways that helped them deal with the issues they were facing.Something that's really different about this one is the climax to the story. I can't really say the details but I will say that the relationship between these two was not at risk but strengthened by the events of the story. I enjoyed that. Not every relationship needs to hang by a thread before a couple can love each other and move forward. It was nice. This is a great Young Adult story that young and old can enjoy. If you love that type of read, then make sure you check this one out. It's worth it.
